6" GP-100 or 6" NM Blackhawk for heavy .357 loads?
« on: February 24, 2004, 05:51:46 AM »
I posted this same topic on the Handgun Hunting forum but I'll ask here as well. I want to shoot heavy 180-200 gr. .357 bullets this coming deer season in Georgia. I have  6" NM Blackhawk but I am not crazy about the grip. I like the feel of a 6" GP-100. Which would be the best for heavy loads. Which would be more durable to shooting heavy rounds. And is there a difference in cartridge OAL capacity? Thanks

There should be no difference in length capacity that I know of. Personally I think the Blackhawk will hold up better but its probably marginal. They are both very strong pistols. I would go with whichever feels best in the hand.   KN

I use a 6" barreled stainless Gp 100 with 180gr XTPs all the time. I reaaly like the way it handles and if I'm one my game I can bust clay pigeons at 100yrds with it. If you don't reload Winchester make a fine round designed for deer and Boars its a 180 partition gold #S357P that grouped real well. The Blackhawk will hold up just as well but if you can hurt either one you shouldn't be shooting that kinda load in any revolver. 8)
