Yeah, it sounds like a job for the .45-70 loaded with the 405s.  We want him dead, not wiggling.   Geeze, 6 more weeks of winter for youze guys.  For us, it's probably a bargain.....we usually have at least 10 or 12.  I have shot woodchucks in March coming out of the snow and climbing a fence post or apple tree.  Come to think of it, I just about cut one in two at that time of year a few years ago with the 22 inch .45-70 and a 405.  I hit him about midships and he was held together by a strip of skin on his back....poor little guy ::)   Except for being a fine target, I have no use for woodchucks.  They're getting pretty rare around here.  We, my neighbors, my family and I, shoot them on sight.  Patty nailed one with her Rem 700 .270 at a range finder measured 440 yards a few years ago.  Did I mention, I don't care for woodchucks....Phil is one of them.

Pete, you have less groundhogs because you have more wolves now!  But hey, as to the weather, at least we have four seasons in Michigan.  June, July, August, and WINTER:)  (that's why I leave for Texas in October and don't come back until May!)  :)  44 Man

PS  I hate this winter

Count yourself lucky, my friend.  A few years back we had a cold winter and the DOT said the frost was ten feet in the ground under the main intersection in town.  This winter is worse.  I know of a few things around the neighborhood that froze this year and never had before.  My water lines are 7 - 8 feet deep, covered with 2 inch pink foam board, topped with hay and manure and back filled.  We leave snow on top of them and don't drive over.  They haven't frozen....YET.  It's a warm day if it gets to 20 above.  It feels like summer.
