3" Winchester Partition Gold Sabot Slugs
« on: February 24, 2004, 07:55:29 AM »
Has anyone used the 3" Winchester Partition Gold Sabot Slug in their sluggers?  I thought that Winchester only manufactured the 2 3/4" Partition Gold.  :?:

Check out these slugs at the following link:
http://www.winchester.com/products/catalog/shotdetail.aspx?symbol=SSP123&use=8&gauge=12

Winchester claims 2000 fps out of this slug.  The 2 3/4"ers that I use in my Ultra Slugger kick hard enough as far as I am concerned.  But of course I would like to try out the 3"ers just to say that I have.  Unfortunately I am not about to lay out $11 plus dollars just to say that I have done it.  So has anyone else shot these monsters?

The 3" 2000fps looks to be something new, and 12 gauge only.  I don't know why winchester would come out with a 3" slug identical to the 2 3/4" slug but only 100fps faster.  Seems like a lot of work and expense in packaging, warehousing, advertising, etc. for 100 fps.

I agree...But they get to market a slug that motors along at 2000 fps per their claims...I know that it is only 100 fps faster than the 2 3/4 but just the fact that it reached 2000 fps makes it seem a lot faster.  Has any other manufacturer claimed 2000 fps yet?

Something is amiss.  The Win.add copy says,"New for 2000" and the picture of the shell is clearly one of the 2 3/4" offerings. I find it hard to comprehend that a 3" would only supply 100 fps increased velosity.

Anyway, haven't seen them and the 2 3/4" PG's are all my shoulder wants. Those things are nasty go-getters!

What I always thought funny is that the 2 3/4" shells actually measure approx 2 7/16" from end-to-end,just 1/16" over 2 1/2".

The 3" shells measure approx 2 9/16", or only 1/8" longer than the standard fare.  Not much gain for possibly heavier/longer payload and a little more powder to propel it, without loosing any of it's punch.  Hmmmmm?
