The NYPD on Monday launched an intensive citywide search to identify the drug dealer who sold heroin to troubled Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who died of an OD Sunday in his Greenwich Village pad.
“An internal email went out to all supervisors asking if anyone has had any experience with those brand names of drugs,” a law enforcement source told The Post. “They’re going to try to find the source.”
 
Timothy Bugge, the new commanding officer of narcotics enforcement for the Manhattan South precinct, emailed the alert to supervisors asking if they had dealt with heroin labeled “Ace of Spades,” or “Ace of Hearts.”
Cops found 44 glassine envelopes of heroin with those markings in Hoffman’s $10,000-a-month Bethune Street apartment.
The law enforcement source said that a process called “a nitro dump” could be key to cracking the case.
 
“Basically what that is, is any time we make a narcotics arrest we include the brand name on the arrest report and store it in our system so our investigators can see where those brands are being sold,” the source explained.
Once they determine a location, they can zero in on the dealer or dealers selling that particular brand.

That's kinda what I was thinking. Just one heroin dealer? What's the point? Why don't they just keep doing what they are doing, and busting the dealers any way they can. This is probably taking good agents away from projects that may well be much more important.

The source is pretty easy to find the US govt deemed it fine to allow the Taliban to continue growing poppies in Afghanistan. That's where the majority of heroin originates from these days since we our supplementing China's economy and they were able to get out of the drug business on a large scale.  Putting the blame on a local dealer is idiotic when our govt is the real pusher. Heroin has to go from the middle or far east to europe then here. It was originally allowed in to curtail the black population. Things are fine as long as the low class folks are killing themselves on it. Let a star do it and it's a manhunt for that terrible drug dealer who sold it. Folks need to be accountable for their own actions. We should also open our eyes to the govt activities as they are the ones who benefit the most by allowing illegal drugs into the country. The leaders can line their pockets as well as have a never ending war to fleece the cash cow over decades to continue and fill their coffers. Our troops in Afghanistan have strict orders not to bother the poppy fields for a reason.

Get real, Yellowtail. Death by OD is natural causes for a junkie. I wouldn't use the term "deserved", but I would say that his death is within what we can normally expect for people who take lots of drugs. Junkies don't get a lot of sympathy from anybody in this world. My good friend just attended the funeral for a 35 year old man man who died of an overdose. The general feeling of people closely involved with it was that the guy had made some bad choices, but there was no real sympathy. The sympathy was only for his wife and three kids. My experience is that this is a normal response when junkies die.

It is sad but like it or not the gene pool gets cleaned from time to time. We will never be able to stop people who do deviate things to themselves from killing themselves.
