If your going to purchase a muzzle loader off Gun Broker....
« on: February 04, 2014, 08:11:32 AM »
I recently won a TC muzzle loader from a company in Illinois.  When I requested that they ship the item to my house, they told me that I had to have it shipped to an FFL dealer.  I told them it was not required by my state, nor the Federal government.  They told me that Illinois required it.

Seems like Illinois has now decided that muzzle loaders are a NICS check item, (Form 4473 required item) in that state.  So if you want to purchase a muzzle loader from a store/company in Illinois, be prepared to pay an FFL transfer fee, in addition to the shipping fee, and the price of the gun.

Nothing new there as far as Ilinois, Cabelas has had that policy for several states for years.

I won't pay a fee on the seller's end for a muzzleloader that can be shipped straight to my door. but if they insist on sendin' it to my ffl he calls when it gets here & just hands it to me.

What if you send a ML to IL? What I understand from the NRA law summary is that a replica ML is ok in IL.  Odd?

It seems to be a gunbroker policy.  I purchased a t/c new englander there this past weekend.  They dealer who is selling it insisted it go to an ffl.  That was stated there before I bought it.  I went to my local ffl he faxed his info.  When it arrives, I just go pick it up no fees no paperwork.  I would suggest reading the finer print first before bidding.  The guy just wants to follow gunbroker policies. Mine was shipped to NY which is horrible with their laws.  I prefer my ffl know the laws and handle it right on my end to keep my butt out of trouble.  It is a 10 mile drive to my ffl no biggie.  If your ffl charges you for that transaction, it is your ffl who is ripping you off when he has to do nohting but hand it over.

Just bought a CVA Frontier back before Christmas off GB. Shipped to my door in NY. Must be misunderstanding the Gun Owner Discrimination Act, also known as the " SAFE Act"

Thius was purchased from a  dealer not an individual.  The dealer is just trying to cover his butt.  But like I said, it said so before I bid no biggie.  From an individual it would not have been a problem I am sure.

It's not a misunderstanding of the "NY Gun Owner Discrimination Act, also known as the " SAFE Act"", the dealer in Illinois (not Gun Broker), stated that he has to treat muzzle loaders the same as rifles.  He won't ship a muzzle loader to any state unless it goes thru an FFL.

bubba - It's not a Gun Broker policy, it's the policy of the dealer.  What state was the dealer/seller in?  Mine was in Illinois.

ok next time don't bid.  he is the seller, he makes the rules.  simple as that.  I have seen this posted on a few other forums too and i see about the same responses.

Without a doubt, I'm not going to be buying any muzzle loader from any place in Illinois.  What's the saying "once bitten, twice shy."

Just trying to save somebody from some grief.
