Now, it is getting personal    Taxing FISHING Gear with the extremely high "medical device tax"....   I just looked it up.... NO JOKE....  Fishing gear and a whole bunch of other non-medical stuff, such as tires, coal and etc....  What have they done to us???   click on the IRS  URL below....

The 2.3% Medical Excise Tax that began on January 1st is supposed to be "hidden" from the consumer, but it's been brought to the public's attention by hunting and fishing store Cabela's who have refused to hide it and are showing it as a separate line item tax on their receipts, the email states.
I did some research and found directly from the IRS 's website information that PROVES this to be true and an accurate portrayal of something hidden in Obamacare that I was not aware of! Now being skeptical of this I went to the IRS website and found this!
Q1. What is the medical device excise tax? A1. Section 4191 of the Internal Revenue Code imposes an excise tax on the sale of certain medical devices by the manufacturer or importer of the device.
Q2. When does the tax go into effect? A2. The tax applies to sales of taxable medical devices after Dec. 31, 2012 .
Q3. How much is the tax? A3. The tax is 2.3 percent of the sale price of the taxable medical device. See Chapter 5 of IRS Publication 510, Excise Taxes, and Notice 2012-77 for additional information on the determination of sale price.

So being more curious I clicked on "Chapter 5
 
of IRS Publication 510."
 
And what do I find under "MEDICAL DEVICES" under
 
"MANUFACTURERS TAXES"?
 
The following discussion of manufacturers taxes

Sport fishing equipment;
 
Fishing rods and fishing poles;
 
Electric outboard motors;
 
Fishing tackle boxes;
 
Bows, quivers, broadheads, and points;

I think we have definitely been fooled, if we believe that the Affordable Care Act is all about health care. It
truly does appear to be nothing more than a bill laden with a whole lot of taxes that we the people
have yet to be aware of.

So Cabalas made a mistake?? If the tax is on medical equipment and supplies, is it on our band aids, peroxide, rubbing alcohol we by from the drugstore?  The feds are always trying to sneak in these small tax's, when they think nobody will notice, or care! Check your cable or satellite dish bill the next time you pay it. Cell phone too. Feds have implemented these little .50-$1 tax's on daily things we need, and their raking in millions!! gypsyman

Cabelas made a mistake in their taxation for a couple of days and they fixed it.

2.3% is no small tax it is huge. We have heated battles over raising sales tax 1/2 percent in Wyo.

 So it's a tax on medical equipment like fishing poles and low MPG vehicles. Now I understand.

It looks like the tax was incorrectly applied to articles that should not have been taxed, so I think the sporting goods aspect of this is incorrect.
 
However, the net effect of the medical device tax does look very bad. It's essentially a VAT tax (i.e., not directly paid by the consumer, but skimmed off as part of the manufacturing and distribution process.)

You believe that it was just a big mistake, kind of like the IRS mistakenly delaying tax exempt status for conservative groups. I have lost faith in the idea of government "FAIRNESS". I can believe anything now.

This is old news....this happened a year ago and has since been proven to be an overcharge(intentionally or not, who knows) by Cabelas.

Again it was what Cabelas did, could have been them making a political statement, who knows, but they were the ones incorrectly charging their customers and taking the monies. They are the ones that did not go out and find those that overpaid. They are the culprits here not the government. Want to whine about something legitimate, whine about Cabelas. Want to be mad at someone cause they charged an unnecessary tax, get mad at Cabelas. Yes the government has a ton of faults, but open your eyes and see the light....this is not one of them.

medical  hemostats   for  tying  flies  is  the  only  relation  I  see  to  a  medical  tax  application for  sport  fishing.

I think of fishing and hunting gear as medical equipment because without it, I'd probably be clinically depressed or otherwise in bad shape. I think obamacare should cover it. Oh, and give me a free cell phone too.

Yep, that is the way the government does everything. they get a foot in the door, where the sheep think, Oh, thats not that bad. Then they start adding to it a bit at a time. Its the same plan for disarmament.
  People tend to look just at their federal income tax. We are taxed in so many ways many don't even see it. With the federal and state governments getting bigger everyday, adding more programs, adding more employees, it certainly isn't going to get any better for us that do the paying.

It's long past time for the United States to have another revolutionary war.  We need to throw the "progressives" out of government and do whatever it takes to debilitate those who vote for and support progressives and commies.  Then maybe we can get back to having minimal, Constitutional government that looks for ways to keep government the hell out of our lives, out of our business and out of our pockets.  The federal government's prime duty should be our defense and security of our borders and not a whole lot more except to enforce the Constitution.
