Any thoughts on a good scope fort he 22lr+22mag?
I don't want to spend a pile on it as I will have to get one for the 22lr and andoth for the 22mag bbl.

I don't know alot about scopes so any advise would be great.

What are you going to be shoot at with these rifles, and at what ranges?

Knowing this will make it easier for us to give a good recommendation.  8)

It's nice to have an Adjustable Objective.

If you dont night hunt or late evening hunt, then any Bushnell or Simmons or similar scope should do.
dont go to wild on objective size, is my advice stay in the 38-40mm range.

Recomending a scope is hard to do. Most manufacturers now make scopes specificly for 22 rimfires with parallex set for 22 ranges. If you are going to hunt at 50yds or less a fixed 4 power would work fine. A 3x9 variable is also good at 22 ranges. I have heard a lot of horror stories about Tasco, BSA, Simmons, and Bushnell but I have had good luck with all of them but the Tasco.

Well, if most of your shots are under 50 yards I'd say a good 4x scope would work well.  Although 3-9x40mm can be had cheap also.  I have a tasco 3-9x40 from walmart ($39???) that I used on my 22lr sportster for awhile.  It worked good for plinking but the cross airs were kind of heavy for pop cans much over 50 yards, but that was probably just my preferences... I like fine crossairs.

I have an old busnell 4x with fine cross airs I'm thinking of putting on my 22lr sportster tonight (now that I think about it   ).  It's just laying up on the shelf.  Always liked that simple fixed power scope.  I've put it on every gun I've ever scoped, rifle or shotgun, to check the gun out.  I know it's a good scope so if there are accuracy problems I know its the rifle/shotgun/mount and not the scope.

Anyway, I'm rambling.  My first choice, because of simplicity, weight, etc, is a fixed 4x, probably a 4x32mm.  I like bushnell, have had bad luck with BSA's but others have not.  Simmons also makes a 4x32 shotgun scope with the diamond recticle.  I've never owned one, but have used a couple on friends rifles and slug guns and like it.  If my bushnell 4x ever dies the simmons will be my first choice to replace it.

If shots are over 50 yards on small plinking targets I'd get a cheap 3-9x40.

For plinking with a .22lr, I just picked up an airgun scope made by Daisy at Wally World for under $30. Ir's a 3-9X32, and it works just fine. And it came with mounts. For a few dollars more I could have gotten a BSA 3-9X40. However parallax with this scope would be set for centerfire ranges, more than is needed for rimfire.

If you can spend a bit more, a scope wit adjustable objective, and even target turrets, is real neat. On my bull barrel Ruger 10/22 I have a Simmons air rifle target scope of 6-18X40. Scopes like these are avilable in more modest magnification ranges and even in straight 4X.

For your .22mag I'd go with a scope of at least 3-9 magnification of a centerfire type, as I imagine you will often be shooting at longer ranges with the mag. AO would be useful here as well. As would target turrets.

By the way, there's a company called Stoney Point that makes target knobs that fit on scopes with standard adjustments. They're available for Burris, Leupold, Tasco and Simmons.

You might want to look at the http://www.natchezss.com/ web site. They have some demos and sale items you might want to check out, in particular a Simmons 2.5-10X50 for $49. In fact, many on-line dealer sites have clearance and/or closeout sections that offer some real good values.

I have a Bushnell 3-9x32 22 Rimfire Scope on order and it should be in tomorrow or Friday.  It ran me $31.00 plus shipping.  The grand total is about $39.00.

- Multi-X® Reticle
- Fully Coated Optics
- Includes Free Rings
- 50-yd Parallax Setting
- The price was right

I'll post some more when I actually get my hands on the scope.

Swift Premier Scopes
« Reply #8 on: February 25, 2004, 04:56:46 PM »
I just picked up a couple of Swift Premier 4-12x40ao scopes from E.A. Brown for $120 each - https://www.eabco.com/Swift01.htm  The Swift scopes are very popular with the guys at rimfirecentral.  I put the first one on my Sportster 22WMR and it's shooting a ragged hole at 25 yards with the first box of ammo I put through it.  As soon as the weather warms up a little bit I'll see what it does at 50 and 100 yards.

I've had a fixed 4x bushnell 22 riflescope for years and it works just fine- if I hold it straight!
