25-06

[Trophy Tom]

I found a 25-06 at a pawn shop. It has a green laminate stock with a medallion  in the stock.
It said limited edition.  It also said ultra on the barrel. Is this something special. Is it a factory gun, stock setup.  Serial number NR

H&R/NEF have made thousands of "limited edition" firearms since 1987, so they're fairly common, usually they have uncheckered laminated stocks with a medallion coin in the stock, not the nicely checkered laminated stocks of the Ultras. The 25-06 Ultra Hunter has been a standard offering for many years, so the 26" barrel isn't a special offering.

They wanted 250 out the door.  It was in great condition but the green stock was not my idea of pretty. I don't know about you guys but the handi's I've found lately are priced in the
225-300 range in less than what I call good condition.  I would even say poor condition.

my model 158 H&R Inc. 22 hornet. Which bullet
should I look for. 22 cal.  .223 or .224

looked at 3 new handis last night at sportsmans.  a .223 handi price 259.00 a .243 youth handi price 259.00 and a .223 ultra with heavy barrel? 299.00. they alos had a BC price 369.00

I'd use .224" due to availability, others use them here as well, even in Jets which used .222" bullets.    Bore size tolerances are more than the .001" difference between .223" and .224". FWIW, I've shot .284" bullets in my .2795" groove diameter overbore .270 Win AI Handi with no problems, just work your loads up as normal. Usually sticking brass and/or primer problems will be the first signs of excess pressure.

I shot a few 35 gr Vmax  factory ammo
It runs 3100 fps.  No sticking issues but the primers protrude a little. I know this Is a sign of too high a pressure. Is it  a problem that would make me not shoot this ammo in this gun

Tim? would that not make that thing something like a 280 rem?

Somewhat, but the bullet swages down in the bore, so it's no longer a .284" once it exits, more like a .280 Win AI since it's no longer .284.

usually protruding primers means LOW pressure, as the brass did not get pushed back against the breech block during firing
