It sounds like I'll definitely have to do the K Hornet at some point, I've read nothing but good stuff on that.

Bumping this up again, I know there are some guys who have not responded that have yet more chamberings. After we get a few more on here I will compile this to a list form of the different ones done by the guys on here.

For the guys with 'oddball' bore diameters did you have the barrels rebored or did you have them stubbed? Any way who did the barrels? I have an idea for a .525 caliber but don't know where to find a  barrel.

Before you go an make yourself a customer .525" caliber firearm you need to make sure the chambering is one that has been approved by the US Attorney General for "sporting purposes".

Rifled firearms over .500" bore are classified as Destructive Devices - a legal issued on par as Machineguns, Suppressors, Short-Barreled Rifles, Short-Barreled Shotguns, and Any Other Weapons.   A Destructive Device is in the same legal passages of law as grenades and explosives.  If you don't do things properly you could be in violation of the National Firearms Act of 1934, which is a federal felony punishable by 10 years in prison and a $250000 fine.

You may want to read up on Destructive Devices - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destructive_device

28 gauge would be .550".

You need to keep some of the original dimensions when playing in the NFA Destructive Device territory.   What Hubel is doing with the 12ga FH is just basically extending the 12ga shell.  ...making super magnums, so to speak.    His bore of his 12ga FH guns comply with typical 12ga bore dimensions to keep things exempted.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the .17 Hornady Hornet.  I know there were at least a couple mentioned here before I got mine done...

Help

Asking for a friend (really) other than 6mm, what calibers can a 243 be rechambered for? Is 6 mm Creedmore an option ?

Thanks

Creedmore is shorter than 243, it can be done on a bolt rifle by setting the barrel back, but I believe it's too much to set a Handi barrel back which has to be done by milling the chamber face then refitting the barrel. A 6mm Rem AI is an option, I have a couple done by Wayne York.

I had my NEF converted to 30/30 A.I. I don't know why, maybe because I wanted one for years and the gunsmith did it for free.....

I had a 7x64 factory rifle and I'd like to punch myself in the face for selling it. I sold it to a member here years ago but I can't remember his name. Very nice guy and a Handi-haulic if I remember right. Oh and a
.38-55 I feel the same way about.

This is nice info, but what would make it better is a list of parent calibers that those conversions came from.  Currently I have a .223 and a .308, which I don't plan on converting, but if the itch comes on I'd like to know my options.

If you want a caliber that was not made by the factory you have several options. The most simple way is to rechamber a factory barrel that is the bore size you want but want a cartridge that is large enough to completely replace the old chamber.
If you want a bore size the factory didn’t make or want a smaller cartridge than what can be done by rechambering a factory barrel you can, Have a factory barrel rebored this requires going to a larger bore size and a larger cartridge .
Have a custom barrel made by stubbing a rifle or shotgun barrel that fits your receiver by yourself or someone that will do this work or have a barrel relined to what you want within limits.

I had a 243 rebarreled to .45 ACP, didn't even have to change the extractor. I really enjoy shooting it.
