I just got thru reaming my Hornet and the operation appears to be a complete success. Just gotta load some up and see.

The two brass cases I just shot to see how well it would work. the nickle case is the test dummy sent by Quick. Looks good to my blind eyes.
I think the next picture is self explanatory.

I love this stuff. 8)

Everybody loves the K hornet. If it's about extending brass life and a little more performance by straightening tapered cases, why do folks seem so ambivalent about doing the same to a 30-30?  Maybe the K wasn't so popular when ammo was cheap and brass available..?

The Lee collet die will work for neck sizing, they'll also modify their full length sizer Hornet die for the K-hornet, or would when they were doing custom work, but they quit doing that for a while.

I am using a set of Redding dies for my 22K Hornet. I also use a Redding 221 Fireball bushing die for sizing the neck when I want to just neck size. I also use a 222 RCBS seating die with a side window to set the bullets. I shoot sub .5 MOA on a regular basis with my stubbed 22 K Hornet. I bought the Redding dies, but found that the other dies work very well, which I already had on hand.

What I like most about the K Hornet that lives here is it is probably the most accurate rifle in the house.

Do you have to use new brass when fire forming the cases?


I want to ream mine, but I have a bunch of 22 Hornet loads that brass have been loaded a few times. I'm thinking shoot all those, and anneal the brass before doing the change to K Hornet.

I've fire formed brass which was fired a few times and lost very few, but annealing first would be the best.

Congratulations, Bob. I just did mine in January. I'm also using the Redding K-Hornet dies. If this works, here's a pic of a standard 22 Hornet, two fire-formed cases and a fire-formed case loaded with a 40gr Hornady VMax.


I haven't had a chance to test the Hornady loads for groups, yet--but I will soon.

The key to annealing so you dont get them too soft and have the shoulder buckle is to hold the rim in your fingers lightly, run the propane torch over the shoulder and neck (no lower) while rotating. When it gets too hot to comfortably hold onto drop quickly into cold water right by you. Once you know the time it takes to do this with the flame you are using, and how they look in the room with low light, you can hold them with a small tongs and save your fillangees.
You may want to overheat one to glowing and water drop, then resize to see how a soft brass folds up.

I may get the redding die because I have heard so much about it, Until then I need to read up some on fire forming.  I've read all about it before but never did it till the other day, I am two for two right now, lol, Any input or load you K Hornet shooters like?
