I have one of these with a smooth bore made for birdshot shells. These were made as a entry level boys rifle, built from approx. 1900 to 1913. The early models had a thumb operated safety but it didnt work very well and was discontinued shorty afterwards. Most of these were chambered for the 22 short as they are not at all ruggedly built and most of them have broken parts or dont work at all. The breech block is very small as is most of the actions parts. and would not be safe to fire with todays Hi Speed 22 shells.
Stevens probably built more models of small boys rifles than anyone else, this rifle sold for about $ 3.50 when new and I am sure any young boy or girl that owned one thought that it was Great !
Im sure plenty of small game has been taken by this style of rifle, Back in the day when they made this style rifles they could be had in falling blocks , rolling blocks, swinging block, break action ( tip up ) and others.
If your rifle works and ejects and doesnt have broken springs ect. It has a value of $ 200 + the pictures you posted show it to be better than average condition.
