New stock for my 30-30
« on: February 09, 2014, 07:00:23 AM »
Bought this at a gun show today. NN prefix 12 gauge mod with the laminated straight stock. Going to try the stock on my 30-30. I will post a pic when done. This is with the 12 barrel.

Also found a nib Bushnell 1.5x4.5 scope for my turkey gun.

Congrats, it'll work fine with the 30-30 if you like straight stocks.  ;)

Never shot the straight stock. I like the way they look, very old school.

I like the looks too, but didn't like how it handled and carried after actually hunting with it a season, it's not the same without a lever on it, I carried my BLR for well over 20yrs, but the lever made a difference in how it carried, didn't like the straight stock on the Handi, thought I'd get used to it, but didn't, pistol grip only for me.

I like it Dave.  You going to keep that mod barrel?

My scoped guns have pistol grips, usually the high comb type made for scope only.  My shotguns and iron sighted rifles, however, all have straight stocks.  I just reshape the Pardner pallet wood stocks for a thin, English style without all the flat spots.

Put the 30 30 with the new stock and I am not sure about that setup. Put my 16 full on it and it was a perfect fit to the frame. May use that for my backup turkey gun. To those who use a 16 for turkeys what ammo works. I have found plenty of 6 but am looking for some 5 or 4 size shot.

6's are the most common around here so that's what I use. I like Federal 1 oz. the best but I never see them anymore. It's all 1 1/8 oz high brass now which also work well.

I have used #4 Hevishot 1 1/4 oz. on ducks and geese, it works well for that but I had to order it online and it's pricey.

What color is the stock? The pictures don't seemed to be working yet. I just picked one up the same thing the other day with a black and grey laminate and I love it so far.
