I like this......

Who in their right mind, SLAPS the hammer back BEFORE closing the breach?

Too old for a paper route and too young to retire!

And a trigger had NEVER been accidentally engaged?
And the transfer bar safety has never failed?

Sorry, in my world, mechanical items do fail and its up to the human factor shouldn't speed it up.

I'm not sorry about it, in my opinion anyone who pulls a hammer back before closing the action is someone I don't want to be around.  It's "et up with the Yankee dumbass" to quote an old friend.

Back to the topic, like George, I think I would choose the Shorty Savage 24, .357 Maximum over 20 ga.  I can't imagine anything it can't do with the exception of 300 plus yard shots.

You hope.

That idea is relying on a mechanical safety which many feel is a poor idea.  I am one of those.

I don't cock my Handis until I am going to shoot.  I think that if it was pre-cocked it could be easy to forget that it was.

I know it's politically correct to say that I respect the other persons viewpoint, but that's not the case for me here.  I don't and won't.

He didn't pull the hammer back until he was ready to fire.  I don't care if you respect my opinion or not.

Anyways, back the OP's topic and not some kid trying to make a tacticool shotgun out of a single shot......

I thought there was a cheek piece that was an aftermarket for the survivor stock?  Maybe from Choate?
If so, has anyone used it?
I thought there was one when they first came out, included with the 223 and 308 rifles.

same here
been doing it this way  for 40 years
why change the routine to save  tenth second
before you expend enough ammo for this stupidity to feel natural
you would be better off buying a pump

Right or wrong I see nothing wrong with it the way he was using it. I do know that most fellers shooting Cowboy action that use exposed hamers cock the shotgun while ejecting the empties so it is ready to fire when you close the breach. Right or wrong I don't know but it is allowed and they are very harsh on safety items. If your good at it you can keep up with and sometimes out shoot the pump guns.

I wouldn't do it hunting Rabbits but I see no problem with it in a desperate situation as he was portraying.

What I can do, and always have done is pull the hammer back when the gun..rifle or shotgun...is coming to my shoulder.  It ain't rocket science.  I do the same with revolvers.  It's not ready to shoot before I am.  There's not a fraction of a second lost.  There's lots of time to cock a weapon before your sights are on the target.....that is unless you are Superman....If that's the case, ya don't need the gun.

in a desperate situation......i want to do it the way i have always done it

not just the way i started training last month
i don't want 2 procedures.....one for rabbits  and one for fighting
the ammo it will take  to get  good with the  ''new'' technique
will exceed the cost of a pump or  maybe even an auto
when drugs are outlawed only out laws will have drugs

Sigmund Freud said something about a fear of weapons.
