Looks like they were all shooting the same rifle, or were they different brands which have come to a single pattern which works best?

They all looked the same to me. Based on what I know about equipment in other sports; probably just one, maybe two at most different brands in the field, with a lot of custom fitting. You make that kind of committment to the sport and go with the best equipment, not the second best. Wouldn't mind having a sporter version of that action; looked sort of like a t-bolt. Well, as long as its not more than a half a grand.
The difference between people who do stuff and people who don't do stuff is that the people who do stuff do stuff.

I had an EAA Biathlon Basic .22.  It shot very well and had the same toggle bolt as the actual Biathlon rifle.  It was very fast to operate, much faster than a conventional bolt action.  Here is a link to an article in Gun Week:   http://www.gunweek.com/2004/feature0801.html

I was a little surprised to see NBC give it coverage.  Was fun to watch.

One of the women fell and broke the buttstock on her rifle.  I think she still had one more stop to shoot, wonder how she handled that?

The 150 meter penalty for each missed shot sure gives an incentive for bearing down on every shot!

Yes, those straight pull bolts looked very interesting.  They appear to be the quickest operating system this side of semi-auto, and it appears it takes only the flick of a thumb to do so.  I wonder why this system isn't more popular?  Of course, Browning has their T-bolt, but that is not the same.

A little search on the web turned up this company:
     http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2013/04/issc-spa-2217-straight-pull-rimfire-rifles-coming-in-may/

Starting at about $500 Pow Pow, and one can get a .22 LR, .22 WMR or a .17 HMR.  Since the .22 mag & the .17 HMR seem to be nothing short of problematical, with the speed these operate at, seems like a possibility. I don't know if the longer mag & HMR rounds will negate the quick thumb action however.  Made in Ried, Austria and Ulm, Germany (any Anschutz connection?).should be a shooter..likely it's brothers are involved in international competition.

Hey CW.. it's a .22 mag.. and a fast one..  Check out the video on the website.
