Mossberg Ssi-one
« on: February 11, 2014, 02:33:23 PM »
I have a Mossberg Ssi-one in .308 with the factory standard  24 inch barrel and I thought what a great handling rifle it would be if I had the barrel cut back to 17 inches.   What are your thoughts ; a cool idea or gun butchery?   I know they were not made for very long ; a possible collectors piece someday, but  I would like it more as a carbine.

I like short barrels on a rifle, easier to carry and handle. If that is what you want, it is your rifle! I had the barrel shortened on my Handi 223 to 16 1/2 inches. It goes for a ride more than my 24" Encore or 24" Ruger #1V.

There could be a slight loss of velocity but other than the increased noise, no issues that I know of.

I have a 30-06 barrel I'll trade you for the 308 barrel and then you can cut that one back, ok. LOL. I have been trying to find a 308 barrel for a very long time. I also have a 12 ga. rifled slug barrel.

I would surely cut it if its what you want. Not much chance of them ever becoming any kind of collectors items.

Right!  That's what I thought about Remington Rolling Blocks when I bought one in 1968 for $7.50 + shipping.  How I wish I had bought a couple of dozen back then in .43 Egyptian!
