ATI Firepower Xtreme .45 Titan LW
« on: February 12, 2014, 07:00:06 AM »
Since my original post is gone I'm starting a new one.  Since getting this I have become a true ATI fan. It has greatly exceeded my expectations. :) Fit and finish is superb. Suprisingly accurate and feeds ammo flawlessly. Recoil no worse than my RIA full sized GI. Muzzle flip not bad at all. Possibly due to two stage recoil spring?  Very easy to conceal and comfortable to carry. Only thing I've changed is the grips, to these Rosewood grips, as I just didn't like the stock Mahogany ones. I'd recommend one to anyone wanting a moderately priced, but well made, 1911. Who else is an ATI fan?

SH you'll likely remember from your previous post, I'm sold.  Mine isn't the lightweight like yours but my next one will be.   ;)   BTW what do you think of the Fat Boy.  Too fat for a comfortable grip for me.  http://www.americantactical.us/8/catalog.html

I've not held one but they claim the grip is thinner than one would imagine because the grip panels are recessed into the frame. I use to want a Taurus Milinium Pro till I held my son-in-law's. I hated the fat grip. Not a fan of double stacks for that reason. Plus I find single stacks easier to conceal. I don't really see the benifit of a Fatboy myself and just don't care for the looks of it. Of course it holds more rounds but if I need more than the 7 + 1 then that's what spare mags are for. I carry two. That's a total of 22 rounds. If that's still not enough to handle a situation I'm going all out and calling in a dang Arc Light Strike!

Thanks. :)

Why Zinc alloy?
I couldn't find a whole lot on the subject but from what I did find Zinc alloys offer high strengths (up to 60,000 p.s.i.) and superior elongation for strong designs. Few materials provide the strength and toughness of zinc alloys. Zinc alloys provide significantly higher impact resistance than that of cast aluminum. Compared to aluminum, the zinc alloys are harder and stronger, machine more easily, have superior pressure tightness, and have substantially better wear and bearing characteristics. Zinc alloys are castable to closer tolerances than any other metal or plastics. Thus reducing or eliminating secondary operations or machining.

I know I've talked to guys that have put several hundred rounds through their Titan LWs without an issue. Some of the early Titans did have problems with the extractors and recoil assemblies. To ATI's credit that was  addressed and corrected on the newer models. The way one can easily tell the differance is that on the early one's the crown of the barrel is rounded and on the newer models the crown is flat. The tollerances are so tight I've heard it said they benifit from a 200 round break in period but my son and I were surprised that mine  fed without a hic-cup right out of the box. My son is very familiar with a variety of firearms, and not easily impressed, so seeing him impressed with it was a plesant surprise. One review said the tollerances are so tight that one would think all the parts are hand fitted. As long as it holds up for me as well as it has for friends I'll concider it a keeper. :)

I have three ATI's, my first is an ATI FX model (Commander style), a Stainless Titan and a Govt Model. Only two complaints after a few thousand rounds through the pistols and that is the Titan has a tendency to bang me in the top of the head with an empty case and the FX firing pin tip was peened over and the gun would not fire. Installed a new firing pin and all is well. Would I buy another ATI 1911, I'm planning on it.
