12 ga. New Englander
« on: February 18, 2014, 02:26:10 PM »
I recently found a 12 ga New Englander barrel FS here on GBO classifieds. Bought it with the idea of giving it to my SIL for Christmas, but I couldn't find a stock for it. Anyway bubba50 finally came up with a camo stock that fit it beautifully.

So last week when the kids came I gave it to him. I showed him how to load it and he fired it at my range out back. We tried several loads and finally found one he liked and patterned good from the IC choke in his barrel. Then I showed him how to clean it in the sink with soppy hot water. He dried it & oiled it and I believe I've got a new muzzle loader fan. My SIL is more into military rifles and semiauto shotguns & pistols. But he's talking about turkey hunting with it this spring.

It's been a while since I shot my muzzleloaders but I had so much fun with him I believe I'll dig mine out from storage & shoot them. They have been in storage since our move to Florida.  ;)

Sounds great.  8)  My step brother really got a kick out of seeing my .72 cal Brown Bess flintlock belching smoke the first time.  I couldn't get him to try it though.  lol  Maybe next go around.  ;)

Heck of a nice introduction to BP for your son in law. The NE'er shotgun left one heck of an impression on me back in 87 or 89' at a boyscout camps skeet range, and is the only one i'll ever need. Hopefully he'll find the same to be true.  J.
