Darting hogs
« on: February 25, 2004, 05:53:36 AM »
Has anyone here darted hogs? I have an oppertunity to make some money removing pigs from a ranch, but it is very important the pigs arn't killed. Trapping could be an option, but some of these pigs are very smart.
Thanks-Tad

Trapping would appear to have less nasty variables, such as overdose, escape into water and drowning, injury to shooter, etc.  For fun, I would love to try a TASER on one, but I think the same variables would apply, icluding injury to ME. :D

contrary to what someone might have told you tad,,there are very few concoctions that are potent enough to put a hog to sleep. Rompum will not touch them, ketaset doesnt work and neither does ace. then you also have the problem of getting a needle long enough to penetrate their fat layer. The only reason i comment on this is because i tried it 10 years ago. But the state of texas also throws  up to a 10.000 fine on the transportation of live feral hogs. dont get me wrong,,,,it happens everyday but with traps, not dart guns
