Does H&R not usually offer a .35 Whelen as new gun?
« on: February 20, 2014, 06:06:10 AM »
I was in Dicks last weekend and I saw a new Handi on the shelf in .35 Whelen. I noticed that H&R doesn't list them on their site. Is it unusual to find a new Handi in this caliber?

Could have been old stock.

Not according to the guy behind the counter. Said they just got 3 of them in. Kinda hoping they don't catch anyone else's eye. I am still waiting on my taxes, and if they still have one left when I get them back, I might have to buy one.

To be generous about it, from what I've observed the last few years is H&R doesn't put a priority into maintaining their website.

If you look at the accessory barrel page, you'll see two Whelen barrels, one with sights, one without, the Whelen is real popular in the SE region of the US and very common in LA and MS for their primitive seasons, big dealers like Dick's and distributors can order whatever they want in special orders as long as they buy minimum quantities of 250 for common chamberings and 500 for not so common. The 35 Whelen has been a regular offering beginning 2006, and then again in 2009 when it was reintroduced due to our demand believe it or not!  ;D
Bud's has them in stock right now in three different models, they've also had them in the Handi-grip as well, at least two models are listed in the 2013 catalog, 2014 hasn't been released yet.  ::)

Doubt they will be selling 35 Whelens, 45-70's, 444's, 35 Rem's or anything else single shot here in MS in any significant numbers any longer because of the rule changes that go into effect July 1, 2014.  Single shots will only be required during one 12 day period, only on private lands, does only, hunters 16 and older in mid November.
