Whatzit? Lyle gun?

Seen at an antique auction in New England-NFI

This one is for sale. It is iron, 2 1/2 inch smooth bore cannon plus iron carriage (pretty sure carriage is original) weigh perhaps 200 or more lbs. It is old and does have some numbers and letters around the bore. Too many layers of old paint to read though. Sorry about the pictures, just had my wifes phone. In the same place, at another booth was what looks to be a rather old iron Cannon ball mold (!) for a 2 1/2" lead ball. Has anyone ever seen one of these? Thoughts solicited.

It looks like a Galbraith Lyle gun from the 1920's although I think the Coston Lyles had a very similar casting plate pattern with the straight leading edge.

The 2nd object is definitely not a cannonball mold, although without knowing the markings, it is hard to tell what it is.  I suspect it has something to do with food preparation.

The 2nd object is definitely not a cannonball mold, ...

Yeah, even if there is a missing piece in the bottom, that wood would be charred if any liquid metal had been near it.

Was probably used to make the very first Hostess Snow-Ball snacks back when.
