A bit bloodthirsty--don't you think?  If the kid is found guilty, he should have to wash a couple cop cars.

I can see both sides of the argument.
I can see that the police officer could get mad at the kid throwing the snow ball.
He has to be out in the snow all day and a snow ball down the shirt and will be wet nad cold all day.  A police officer is a sign of Athority and allowing one kid, no matter the motavation will allow others to then bombard the police with snow balls at any time.  The Boston Massacare was started by a Snow ball fight.  The Bostonians said it was all in fun and the British said there were Rocks hiddded in the Snow balls.  And the cop cna not throw a snow ball back at the kid(s) think is a pair of cops got into a snow ball fight with this kid or a few kids and one of the kids was hurt what would you be calling to happen ot the police officer?   Charged with police brutality?  fired?
And I am sure this is more to make an example of the Kid than anything else not to throw snow balls at the police.   The kid is in trouble, It will cost the parents some $ to hire a lawyer and time off work ot go to family court and the kid will tell his friends and maybe the other kids will have a little respect for the police and not throw snow balls at them.
And on the kids side, If the police officer was the neighborhood beat cop that plays with the kids, or there is another cop that does and the kid thought it would be funny to toss a snow ball at the cop and get into a little snowball fight with the buddy cop.

Not me at all... just wondering how it would have played out if it had been a rock... or a pebble or a grain of sand.

If he wouldn't have thrown the snow ball, he wouldn't have the problem!

Oh I don't have a problem with him being in trouble...

Just wondering why some of defenders of the "storm troopers" haven't shown up to advocate killing the kid for assaulting a police officer with a deadly weapon.

A felony rap?  Come on!  It could have been better dealt with than that.

Exactly!  A better way to deal with things...

Spend the next four weekends washing and detailing 10 police cars per day.
Or maybe 8 weekends of ride-alongs.

Or maybe his mom and dad (if they exist) should have beat his but for it...

What Happened to a Boy After He Allegedly Threw a Snowball at a Cop

A 13-year-old boy was arrested this week after an officer says he threw a snowball at him — a claim the young teenager disputes.
“It made me mad,” the eighth-grader, who is facing a felony charge of battery to a police officer, told the Chicago Tribune. “He (the officer) said the snowball hit him but it hit the car, not him.”
According to the officer, the 13-year-old threw a snowball at his arm Wednesday while he was sitting in a marked squad car. He was immediately taken into custody and charged as a juvenile with aggravated battery against a peace officer, which is a felony, the Tribune reported.

His mother is outraged.
“He kept trying to tell the officer that he didn’t do it but they didn’t believe him,” she reportedly said. “He was standing on the corner, there was a whole crowd of kids. It’s so crazy.”
“He was standing on the corner, there was a whole crowd of kids. It’s so crazy.”
Share:The boy’s mother first learned of the incident when she received a phone call from the officer.
“He got on the phone and was saying (her son) threw a snowball at the car and the officer was in the car,” she told the Tribune.
“It’s sad, he’s only 13. I’m so upset, he’s never been in trouble before,” the mother added. “It’s his first case.”
According to the child, the school’s dean, Lenard Robertson, is the one who pointed the child out as the culprit from the crowd. He declined comment to the Tribune.
In addition to the formal charges, the school also reportedly suspended the 13-year-old for five days.

Come on!  Where's all the "He used a deadly weapon!", "He committed a crime!",  "He might have been a drug dealer or a MS-13 member!", "The cop should have shot him and saved us the money!"???

Surely a snow ball is just as dangerous as a rock?  He threw it at a cop!  He deserved to be blown away right?

In this video college students begin a snowball fight with a college prof:

How many snowballs get thrown at an LEO before they need to react?  One? five?  Or should the officer just have fled the scene?  Have any of you ever been in a snowball fight with an unwilling participant?  One ball hits the mark and there's no response.  In seconds there is a barage, and it's fun

Felony seems a bit over the top, but what is the correct response from the all-cops-are-bad folks?
Just my Awf Hand comments...

Not worth obsessing over,  NGH.  It's called conflating...wait, I'm not sure that's even a word, but the spell checker seems to think it is.  Anyway, you're trying too hard to make your point.  I'm sure we all get it.

I don't think all cops are bad. Truth be told I'm glad we have them. Certainly the cop should have reacted. Perhaps a talking to or even a misdemeanor of some type. If this sticks in court you have a 13 year old with a violent felony on his record perhaps for life. He would have a lessor offense for stealing a car.

Could be...

When I was 8 we used to throw mub balls and dirt clods at cars on the road behind our house.  Even took a chance on a police car one day.  Got our butts beat for all that.

I went to college.  Spent 24 years in the AF.  Have had no criminal offenses other than speeding.  Have had a TS/SCI (including Yankee White) since August of 1987.

Maybe throwing deadly weapons doesn't always equate to an evil path or the need to be killed.

When I was a kid
Cops cars, where 10 points Reg. Cars 5
We hit anything & everything with wheels, except Ambulances
We called it bombing
What we did was, TIMED shots
we would Lead the cars
after you got too your hidden post, you waited for a vehicle
About 25 ft or so before they where even with you,
you simply throw the ball ahead of the car if you TIMED it right POW!!
you where given points and applauded.and many times chased on foot by mad drivers :)
with the cop cars you threw and ran through as many back yards as you could :D
it wasn't right but hate to say it was fun no one as I recall got hurt some windows did break

I would NEVER do it again
