virgin valley- made the plunge'
« on: February 25, 2004, 01:08:55 PM »
I just ordered a barrel from virgin valley for my encore. It's a 26" matt. stainless barrel with a standered taper, chambered for the weatherby 270 mag. Has anyone had any experience with this cal. I don't know what weight bullet to go with, I thought about the 130 or 140 grain barnes. Any info will help.

Yeah Steve is the one who emailed me. He said they stopped chambering the .257 WBY being the cases lasted one firing.
I am ordering a .257 Roberts now---------
He doesnt list the .270 WBY mag but does list the .257????????
I am sure he knows what is best!!!
Good luck with your new tube-How long is it going to take??

Heres the deal with the .25's.  The weatherby rounds are higher pressure than their counter parts and are close to the limits of the encore.  As the bore diameter gets smaller and the case stays the same the pressure spike last longer because less area in the barrel to expand.  I tried to have a 25-300 winmag made but EVERY shop said it was just too much for the Encore for that reason.  Hope that helps.
