Elderly military vet unable to get a birth certificate for photo ID in Kansas

IDPeople regularly voice how easy it is to get an ID or birth certificate, and conclude that anyone who can’t must be illegal or lazy. Well, when my dad and I recently were at a driver’s license office, an elderly man next to us was trying to get an ID so he could get a visa to travel. He had a stack of papers documenting his military career and all past expired driver’s licenses and IDs. He was born in a small town and was never issued a birth certificate.
The man and his daughter had been trying all year to get all the right documentation. Even though the employees were bending over backward trying to help the guy, they couldn’t get past the legal requirements.
The look of despair on this man’s face is something my dad and I will never forget.
As this poor guy, clutching his cane, started walking off, his daughter said to him, “I guess we’ll have to figure out how to get you a birth certificate.” He replied, “By then I’ll be dead.”
This man made a career out of defending our country only to be defeated by the very people for whom he was willing to sacrifice his life.

The applicant MUST include a copy of a photo ID and a handwritten signature with the request.

I guess I don't understand - how did he get the previous driver's licenses and I.D.'s?
 
I forgot to renew my license once (had been expired for a couple months IIRC) and all I did was go in, show them my expired license, took the written test, had my picture taken, and was on my way.
 
Just sounds like there's something more to the story?

I do not know. It appears that he had not had a license in some time, thus needing the ID card. Back in the day the requirements were probably not as tough. Concerning his previous IDs/licenses; Kansas will only accept non-expired ones.
There well may be more to this but since it was a signed letter to the editor I am making the assumption that the writer was conveying what he witnessed anyway.

If your point is that because one old geezer is getting the runaround about getting a picture I.D. the whole concept of proving your identity to vote has to be abandoned--nice try.

At one time to get a pass port you could get a letter from your minister or other official or such that stated they knew you and you were who you said you were.

Maybe / maybe not here in Va. if you let you DL expire you have to re prove you are who you say you are by showing a birth cert. , voter ID card or such. An old DL won't get you a new one . Lose one the same thing. Best part they will not hand you one it has to be mailed to you .

In the letter I posted it stated he was trying to get an ID so he could get a visa. Also as I posted, KS does not accept any expired IDs.

There really is no viable argument against having to prove your qualification to legally vote in this country.  You Dumycrats aren't fooling anyone with your intent.
