There's probably a thousand villages in Alaska that would like a road, (I'm not exaggerating) OR should I say, they "think" they would like a road "now"...  Are we going to build all of them a road too???

It's VERY common to have villages without a road to the outside, in Alaska.

In spite of my 614 mile mistake, i could only wish to live in a secluded community where i couldn't get anywhere without a boat or plane.  Again i'll say that those who are sceered might want to ...move.  :o

Clearly, there are NOT 1000 villages in Alaska that have 1000 or more residents.  That would be 1,000,000 or more people.  The population of the entire state is about 731,000 and half of those live in the Anchorage metropolitan area.

The people living there need the road.  As for bringing in homeless folks?  Won't happen, too rough an area to live in.  Without the road the village is likely to die.  As for hurting the wildlife?  That is what was said about the Haul Rd.  The Caribou have grown ten fold since the road was put in.  But this road would have little impact on the local wildlife.

As for places where roads are needed in Alaska, there are many.  Every one of you that live in the lower 48 can just jump in your car and drive to your state capital.  We have to fly in, if the weather is good.  If we happen to live in Southeastern we can use a boat if the weather is good.  Our Capital is more accessible to Seattle than to Anchorage.  Check out a map of Alaska someday.  Count the highways we have.  No other state is so inaccessible.  We were promised to be connected by rail to the lower 48 at Statehood, has not happened yet, and it's been over 50 years.

I along with some think we should just take all our Gold, Copper, Molybdenum, Silver, Oil, and Gas, and just go our separate way.  Completely kicking the Federal Government out of our state.  Statehood was a big mistake.  At least when the Civil War starts in the lower 48, we can lock our ports and only do business with Asia, cutting off the lower 48 completely.  Canada would help.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I got to say that if I lived up there I wouldn't want the road.
Part of the mystique of Alaska is the remoteness.
But also the difficulty of just living there.
Make a bunch of roads and watch the west coasters move up there.

Start counting villages, instead of the population in them...  I can easily count 1,000 villages...  Over the 25 years I lived in Alaska, I traveled all over, hunting ect...  I can't even count how many times I heard the "lack of a road bitch"...  I'm betting after most of them had a road, they wouldn't want it.

My opinion (and hasn't changed) is, for the folks in the lower 48, to keep their nose out of Alaska business, you have no idea what it's like there UNTILL you spend some YEARS there.

I'm not so sure the village will die...  Personally I don't believe that...

I also don't believe it won't have any impact on the local wildlife...I hunted caribou EXACTLY where they want to put that road...  They bottle neck through there...  The only way it won't hurt the herd, is to put a lot of hunting restrictions right there.  If they don't, folks will be blasting the crap out of them, right from that road.

SO, NO the road won't hurt them, but giving people access will....and don't even try to tell me that folks won't go there to shoot them, so a LOT more hunting restrictions it will be!

Good for the Fed.

I wish all of Northern Minn. had been made one giant Indian Reservation it would have kept out the liberal trash that is moving up there and having roads built just for them, (So they can build their multi-million dollars summer homes), as they are migrating here from other over croweded liberal states, has made Minn. a liberal slough.

Now they whine because their cell phones do not work in places up there, so the state should do something about that etc., etc., etc.

I kind of figured you might say something like that, which is why I noted the population of THIS village.  It's not some little 50 or 60 people wide spot in the road (ooops, most don't have a road), but a town of 1,000 people.  So, NO there is not a thousand villages like this in Alaska.

SO, if the population is 1,000 or more people, give them a road....  BUT, if the village is 999 or less, then ignore them!  Got it!   :o
