Muzzle diameter is just shy of .800", bore is around .452", of the three I have .452" bullets will drop right thru 2 of them, bullets stops mid bore on the other. Groove diameter is around .458" on all of them, all H&Rs have bore dimensions that are ~.0005" larger at the muzzle than at the chamber end due to not being stress relieved before they're turned to contour.

If you want to shoot cast bullets .459 or .460 is a good place to start.

Don't mean to hijack but I have a question about what is the general concensus about this rifle and load pressure? I try not to go over 35K with my lever gun because this caliber loves to punish on both ends... ;D  I have read opinions that an H&R is designed to handle the higher pressure loads.

Tuco, some have loaded up into Ruger No.1 level loads and as far as I recall no-one has reported failure of the gun. I have gone up into low end Marlin level with satisfaction that the gun is more capable than I. The place I like my top loads seems to be what we might call 45-70+P at about 1500fps with a 500 cast bullet. Fact is that we do not need high velo to do the job (ask the buffalo, American Indians and Spaniards at San Juan and Kettle Hills), the BP or smokeless equiv. to the original load was and is dependable. You can stoke 'em up hoping for a flatter trajectory but it never will be 'flat' until you get so fast you cant stand to shoot it.
