Handi noob!
« on: February 27, 2014, 01:40:56 PM »
Howdy, I'm Ray from Kansas.

Been curious about Handi rifles for awhile. I'm a fierce advocate of the K.I.S.S. principle. I want to start casting my own soon & I think the old .35 Remington would be a neat old caliber to do it in.

I spotted an ejector model 30-30 locally & snagged it up for the frame & wood. Picked up a .35 Remington barrel & it arrived today! So now begins my cast boo lit shooter build!

I've lurked for months & have read most the FAQs. For the most part, I'm understanding them but I'm not a good text learner. Got a couple more in depth questions bit that's for elsewhere.

Ya'll have a good one.

You might want to start shooting cast from the .30! lots of different bullets and molds to choose from. The old .30-30 is reputed to be a great cast bullet round.

The same thought has crossed my mind, however the 30-30 barrel I got has microgroove rifling. I've read that, yes you can cast for them, however it seems it's more difficult & until I get some experience under my belt, I wanted to start off with a cast friendly caliber.

That & I've always been a believer in big heavy bullets!

Welcome to the internet home of a great bunch of folks and a few old farts.
Hope your time here is enjoyable.

I've got both of those calibers in Handi's and they both shoot cast very well.  :)
Glad you found Handi Mecca.  ;D
