Im one that doesn't buy into the stopping power bs either. Ive shot and watched buffalo shot with 500 linebaughs keep eating till they fell over dead. Ive shot deer with 475s and 500s and they run just as far as one shot with a 44. Ive also shot deer with guns as powerful as the 300 ultra mag and my 8 mag and have just as many run 50-100 yards as I do using a 243. Stopping power is more (MUCH MORE) a matter of shot placement then what gun or bullet you chose. The old storys of 1911s in war blow off arms or sending people flying are just that storys. Want to see how much smack your putting on a person or deer. Hang a 100lb bag of feed corn on your clothes line pole and shoot it. You likely not going to even see a reaction to the shot out of a handgun and even something like a 300wby will barely move it. Knock down is putting a bullet (about any bullet) into the central nervous system. If you don't do that prepare to be shot back at. One shot dead right there kills are more a tv thing then real life.
