first storm of the winter
« on: November 07, 2019, 12:12:33 AM »
about 4 inches on the ground and its still coming down hard. They even canceled school here. Kind of comical how quickly they do that this time of year and by the end of the year they seem to not close when your getting the storm of the century! Comes down to how many missed days they have and when it gets to a certain number they have to make them up at the end of the year and how be dammed if the teachers and administators want to work an extra day or two.

It isn't even winter yet. They are saying that we will likely set a new record low on Tuesday morning. The old record for the date is over 100 years old. They said we might see some snowflakes that morning but no accumulation.

Well I even got stuck today. Ive got a box blind about a mile from the house. I take my 4 wheeler there to bait it. Got there today and there was about 6 inches of snow and theres a tree stump ive been avoiding and knew was there and drove right over not thinking and high centered the bike. Winch wouldn't even touch it.  so I had to walk home get the power saw walk back and cut the stump. Dog loved it. He got some exercise today. Had to laugh he was running in circles because I was so slow. My ass was dragging. told old to wade through wet snow. Don't know why im even bothering. Ive been baiting it for a month and a half and still haven't set out. To much bear sign in there. crap everywhere. I about know theres no deer in there and even if there was I have a full freezer of venison already anyway. My wife shakes here head.

If I had a mile to walk these days it would take me days to walk it. Even on level ground with no snow I do good to walk 100 yards without having to stop and sit or lay down to get my breath back.

well bill I sat there for about a 1/2 hour trying to figure how to avoid it but like a dummy I didn't even have a cell phone with me. Could have taken the jeep to bring the saw back there but then id have two vehicles I had to get out so I just turned around and walked back. Honestly that's the farthest ive waked in 5 years and ill pay for it.

It has been raining here in Upstate NY all day and it is to turn to snow later.  They say there possibly could be up to 1/2" of snow by tomorrow morning.
Good Shooting,

We got about 5 inches here in WI yesterday. It never got above 20 degrees today and is dropping fast now, sky is clear. Gonna' be close to zero by morning. I'm headed north to deer camp tomorrow morning I still have a couple of pipes still full of water. I hope I can bow hunt not play plumber.

We are colder than normal, but so far not as bad as last winter. Fingers crossed.  My old thin skin don't handle it well anymore.

4 degrees at sun up. I'm hoping we get a couple weeks of indian summer if we don't April is going to be a long way off :( . If things go like they been it'll probably 80 degrees for opening day of gun season.

Yep.....was below zero here where I'm at in Wisconsin this morning. Was 14 degrees when I got out of the treestand last night, wind chill was around zero.  Thank God for today's modern winter clothing/boots. Sat from 1 till 5. Cold had the deer up and moving too. Deer were hitting the clover pretty hard in front of me all night. Had a 'ell of a nice buck out in front of me @ 40 yards, never gave me a decent shot. He keep chasing a small doe around my tree. Everytime I would stop him, he'd be behind something or at a bad angle. Last thing I wanted to do was make a bad shot on such a dandy. Had to come home for my annual physical this morning, but am going back out tonight and the rest of the weekend. Doctor told me I'm in pretty good shape for 65, I think still working and hunting helps with that. I know the snow has really helped seein' the deer too.
"where'd you get the gun....son?"
