when talking quickest cars of the muscle car era you hear ls6 chevelles, 428 mustangs, hemi mopars 442s and gtos but truth be told the one that usually won any shoot out was the gs buick. The limited production gsx was even quicker. Still my favorite car I ever owned was a 87 buick grand national I bought new. I bought a lame 87 442 new and got it home and found out the paint was faulty and never hardened right so they bought it back. Couldn't find another one anywhere so they gave me my money back. It was late in the season and I even tried to find a monte ss but all I could find left were white ones. Just had read the hot rod review on the GN about a week before or I wouldn't have even known they existed. We were on our way home after striking out on finding what we wanted and saw the buick dealership and figured what the hell maybe they could find one. they had one in the show room and 2 T types (same drivetrain) on the lot. I wrote a check for the one in the show room on the spot. It isn't fast by todays standards but in the 80s it was as good as it got. Loved that car but was married and left the power plant for a apprentice lineman job which was a cut in pay and moved to a town that was a REAL snow town so I had to part with it. Heres where it gets embarrassing. I have to admit right here that I traded that grand national for wait wait WAIT!! a gross brown chev celebrity!!!!!!! they should have taken my right to call myself a man away from me on the spot. Even the kids thought it was ugly! We had that thing for 6 years and at that time I got a divorce and 6 months later bought a vette. Ive had some cool cars through the years. A a 65ss impala convertible, 67 440 gtx , 70 ls5 Chevelle, 73 340 duster, hand full of various gen camaros and 3 vettes but that grand national was my favorite.
