Quote
The most popular car color in the world is all of them. Or none. It depends on which description of “white” you prefer.

(Dmitry SerebryakovTASS via Getty Images)

The latest global survey from paint supplier Axalta found that white vehicles make up 38 percent of the global market, with that other “not really a color” black a distant second at 19 percent and gray in third at 13 percent. It marks the ninth year running that white took the top spot.

White was No. 1 in North America (29 percent) and in every world region aside from Europe, where it was brushed aside by gray this year.

(Axalta)

Silver followed white, black and gray in North America with blue moving up 2 percentage points to 10 percent to top the rainbow colors ahead of red at 9 percent. Brown/beige (2 percent), green (1 percent), yellow/gold (1 percent) and orange (1 percent) rounded out the top 10.

But buying from the bottom of the list doesn’t just mean you’ll stand out in a crowded parking lot. According to automotive marketplace iseecars.com, orange, yellow and green cars typically hold their value better than other colors.

whites one of those colors that can either make a car or truck look luxurious of look cheap with just a switch in wheels or trim. Back in the day when cars rusted bad up here in salt country we stayed clear of white or light colored cars. Theory was they reflected sun and moisture trapped in crevasse wouldn't evaporate near as fast and its caused rust. Colors like black heated body panels up and moisture would evaporate.  Don't know if it was true or the white just seemed to show the rust more.

Rust isn't an issue here in the deep south but heat is. I like white cuz it reflects most of the heat back and thus a vehicle parked outside in summer is not as hot when ya open it up after awhile in the sun.

when I was in the service I bought a brand new 73 340 duster. It was dark blue with a half black vinyl top and black vinyl interior. Didn't order air because living in Michigan back then nobody got air. I about died in that car. Id have to open the windows let it air out for 5 minutes and put towels on the seat. it was the last vehicle of any kind I ever bought without ac. Anymore I don't think they even sell a car without ac. but I can sure see why they became popular in the south. I bought a black 92 vette off a guy in NC in 94. It was like new and only had 3k on it. Asked him why he was selling it already and he said because its black. He said the day I get your check im going to the chev dealer and buying a new white vette. So I guess even with ac dark isn't popular down south.

One of the downfalls of living where we do. My first ever new truck was white and I'll never buy another white vehicle. I mostly buy used now and generally buy out west (Arizona).

That reminds me of how cars were sold here in the south in the old days Lloyd. Many, dunno if most but a lot of them, were sold without heaters. It was called a DELETE OPTION and saved ya a little money but not really a lot.

Those days are long in the past. Now ya get both heater and AC in all vehicles sold down here.

that must have sucked even on humid mornings and evenings when you need a defroster to get rid of the condensation on you windshield. When my dad bought a new  79 chev short box 4x4 the rear bumper was optional. Wonder how it would do in todays crash testing like that. Came with no bumper, no radio of any kind and rubber floor mats. Only option on the truck was the 350 v8 and 4 speed vs 3 speed and a 6cyl.

It was NOT good Lloyd, even here we get cold mornings and sometimes stays that way all day. The high yesterday was 33 and night now as I type this it's 18.

Dad never bought one of those without a heater thankfully but they were sure selling them to people.

In my '56 Ford I had to have the engine rebuilt, my BIL did it for me and somehow he failed too hook up something involved with the heater. I can't recall what was left unhooked but the result was I had no heater. We were spending the night at some friend's place up in the mountains.

The morning I was to head for home there was 2" to 3" of sleet on the ground when I got up and then it began snowing. By the time I got home there was over 6" of snow in addition to the sleet. That was one cold ride home and yeah the windows kept fogging up. Needless to say I had him come back over and fix the heater soon.

yup bill I spent 4 years in Norfolk Va and it got plenty cold there to use a heater. Plenty hot too to use ac!! Only heater delete cars I saw were some 60s stripped down big motor cars guys ordered to drag race. Theres one guy around here that has a 61 impala with a 409 with a block off plate where the heater controls and radio were.

For some reason, flies like to swarm all over on a white vehicle.

I never owned a car with air/or a working air conditioner,  till I got my '78 Olds three years ago.I was used to it.
Drove my father's '71 impala to the West Coast in summer of '87 with windows open at 90 mph. ALWAYS had a full cooler with ice and water.

I had a flat tire in Nevada and the pavement was so hot when I changed tires, my shoes left an imprint in the pavement and I finally pulled some thing out of the trunk to stand on as it got so hot I could not squat in one place for long. The car jack left a nice hole in the pavement too.

I grew up without any air, any where, till Dad's, Dad,  in1970 gave him an AC he called a window shaker, which was why he gave it to dad and was self explanatory once dad put it in.Hot humid nights were far, far, far worse than hot dry day, though with the dry heat I slept with a spray bottle of water by the bed.
My Mustang was the only car I have ever owned or used that did not have cloth seats; that made life a lot easier.
