I never owned a car with air/or a working air conditioner, till I got my '78 Olds three years ago.I was used to it.
Drove my father's '71 impala to the West Coast in summer of '87 with windows open at 90 mph. ALWAYS had a full cooler with ice and water.
I had a flat tire in Nevada and the pavement was so hot when I changed tires, my shoes left an imprint in the pavement and I finally pulled some thing out of the trunk to stand on as it got so hot I could not squat in one place for long. The car jack left a nice hole in the pavement too.
I grew up without any air, any where, till Dad's, Dad, in1970 gave him an AC he called a window shaker, which was why he gave it to dad and was self explanatory once dad put it in.Hot humid nights were far, far, far worse than hot dry day, though with the dry heat I slept with a spray bottle of water by the bed.
My Mustang was the only car I have ever owned or used that did not have cloth seats; that made life a lot easier.
