XD-E™ 3.8″ SINGLE STACK – 9MM
Springfield Armory® is pleased to announce that the hammer fired XD-E pistol, already available in 3.3”, is now available with longer 3.8” and 4.5” barrels.

The XD-E takes the best elements of the Springfield Armory XD series and combines them into a double action-single action (DA/SA) pistol that’s perfect for concealed carry.

Combining the XD’s 1911 style grip angle into a sleek frame measuring just an inch wide, the slim profile is a comfortable fit that is ideal for everyday carry. The design features a Low-Effort-Slide that requires 27% less effort to cycle the slide when compared to leading striker-fired pistols in its category. The exposed hammer is also an excellent feature that adds peace of mind by clearly showing the mode of carry the firearm is in. The XD-E can be carried “cocked and locked” with the safety on, or with the hammer down and the safety on or off. The fully ambidextrous, dual manual safety and de-cocking system allows the user to safely lower the hammer without pulling the trigger.

The first double-action shot requires an intentional, longer and deliberate trigger pull for increased safety while carrying and drawing. After the first shot, the XD-E reverts to single-action operation, giving the operator a much lighter and crisper trigger break. The result is improved accuracy and faster, more controllable follow-up shots.

The Mod.2 grip texturing provides a secure fit in your hands, wet or dry.

Both new models carry 8 + 1 rounds of 9mm, and with the Magazine X-Tension™, the capacity increases to 9 +1. Even the flat-base concealment magazine offers a pinky extension that allows a full grip. These three magazine configurations let you further determine capacity, comfort, and concealability.

That's some heavy competition up against the CZ 75 compact which is about to come out as a single stack.
With a  decocker also.

As always, it's a good idea to hold off on these new designs till they are proven.  In the past week I've read an article where the striker broke on one, and another where the bottom of the feed ramp on the barrel lost a chunk, calling into question the metallurgy.

Springfield has as good a warranty and customer service as anyone in the industry. Besides the E on this one stands for external hammer. It isn't a striker fired gun.

You are correct they do - but needing to take advantage of warranty and customer service, regardless how good it is, is still a pain.  I experienced that pain with the 1st gen XDs safety recall - I spent *months* without my gun waiting on them to develop a fix when they said they had a fix when they announced the recall...

And, my bad, I got this confused with a post elsewhere about their new Hellcat.  That is the firearm I've seen the two reported issues.  I've not seen any issues with the XD-E.

I prefer hammers over strikers anyway. So I would give this one a try, that and I like the single stack idea.
For a CCW, right now I'm carrying a PPK. I'd rather have a 9mm.

I had an issue with one of my Springfield's, I really can't recall which one. I called them up and within 5 minutes, likely less I had an e-mail with a shipping label. I Had a proper box on hand so boxed it up, put the label on and within a couple hours the truck showed up to pick it up and return it to them.

I had it back in my hands repaired in about a week's time. No charge for anything.

Even Ruger doesn't do better.

The only problem I had with getting my Ruger repaired was with FedEx and not Ruger.
That's when I found out there was a Roswell Georgia. I didn't know before that.
It was Georgia who found out what happened then over nighted it to NM.

Georgia was very accommodating on the phone and they called me. They didn't know why the screw up
could have happened. The manager said he thought that someone along the way wasn't useing their bar
codes correctly. And it being a firearm that was a serious matter.

I don't like a da first round gun. The first round is the one that you need to make count and I don't want a long heavy trigger pull for that. Ive also seen people that have those type guns that are well practiced get goofed up with a long first round and a shorter lighter second round actually fire a gun before they had the sights on target. Granted lots of this could be cured with practice. But most of my guns are striker fired and I don't need two different style guns to practice with. Now if I was to get another da self defense gun id rather a strickly DA gun. One with a nice smooth 5 lb da trigger like my old para ordanance had. That gun was like shooting a slicked up K frame da. Then add to this it has one of those unexceptable warts on the side. A manual safety. Why would you need a manual safety with a first round da gun???? Me Ill save a few hundred bucks and stick with a shield or spend the same and loose one round and stick with my 43. I have nothing against springfield guns. Ive had a couple 1911s from them and they were real good guns but there no more reliable or better made then a shield and right now you can pick up two first gen shields for the price of one of these.
