your opinion. Best 400 dollar or less bolt gun

Ive got a ruger American and bought my grandson a savage axis and granddaughter a Mossberg atr. It has a spiral cut bolt and a fluted barrel and a decently solid stock. All things that you wouldn't expect on a cheap gun. All shoot well. Id pick the ruger. It has the worse stock of all of them but has hands down the best trigger. Accuracy is a wash. All of them shoot moa and better then some of my 1000 dollar rifles do. Looks wise the Mossberg takes first and the axis is last. Typical but ugly savage action and by far the worse trigger. Not put one of there accu triggers on it and I might rate it better. I haven't tried the entry level rems or Winchesters or TC's.

Remington M700 ADL or Remington M783 would be my choice in that price range. All of the ADL rifles I've owned have been nicely accurate rifles and from what I've heard of the 783 it is highly accurate and actually seems to have a better trigger than the X-Mark Pro now put on M700s.

I like the adls but have never bought one. Allways bucked up for a sps instead. they at least have a separate trigger guard so any 700 stock is an easy upgrade. Ive got two sps's matte blued guns with cdl stocks on them and think they look better then the gloss blued cdls. Never shot a 783.
