You ever drive around.
« on: December 25, 2019, 08:57:58 AM »
And look at the houses you once lived in? Only to find them in shambles. Because the neighborhood went
downhill. It's a sad thing to see, the one me and my wife spent our first Christmas in together.
She saw it and started crying.

Yes I have done that. Our memories shouldn't be hurt like that. Sometimes it provides a method of moving on from a memory, but I avoid doing it.

She said I want to buy it back! And fix it up, we raised our Daughter as a baby in that house. I told her Honey look at the other houses around it, this isn't a nice area anymore like it was back then. Those days are long gone. We moved out here when she turned six, bought it from my SIL.

You want to help our Daughter and grandson get a place, let's look somewhere else.

I know what you mean. Then I make myself feel worse, and take a spin through all my childhood/teen hunting grounds and look at the apartment buildings, strip malls and subdivisions.

I understand that. There are places here where we used to hunt bunnies out of a jeep. No more it's now
north Roswell sub division.

This mirrors the general decline economically and morally in America since the 50's and 60's.

Do I drive around? Nope not really. I drive no more than absolutely needed. Driving quit being fun to me a very long time ago.

I also do not go back and look at places I have lived before. I've not gone back and looked at the area that was my home as a boy since I left there the last time in '80 after letting dad talk me into moving back for a short while and it did turned out to be a short while.

It used to make me sad going back to ILL to visit and drive around seeing houses and subdivisions where we used to have great rabbit hunts, squirrels, quail, dove, etc. Those places are gone forever. So much farm ground lost to so called IMPROVEMENT. CHARLIE.  :o
Mr. Charles Glenn “Charlie” Nelson, age 73, of Payneville, KY passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021 at his residence. RIP Charlie, we'll will all miss you. GB

I only remember one house. I think Dad bought and moved to it when I was a 2 yr old. Many fond memories.I went back on 2004 and drove by the old home place. Very little was recognizable. The only structure left was an old storm cellar Dad built after a twister killed 30 plus people in 1953.The big two story house, and the big oak trees all gone. A couple of stumps and that cellar was all that was left.  I wish I hadn't gone back now.A four lane highway leading to where my Sister now lives, was a gravel road in 53.

Our SIL is a good kid. He found a place in N Rowell that fits their budget. An older place that was there before
all that development showed up, and the city annexed it.
