Uberti Deluxe Regulator
« on: February 26, 2004, 10:55:58 AM »
Hello,  I'm brand new on the forum here.  I've owned and shot many Ruger single actions .22, .357, .41, .44, etc.  However I just ordered a Uberti Deluxe Regulator in 4 3/4" bbl, in .45 Colt.  I wanted to know what to expect in the way of accuracy and dependability.  I know the Uberti "Colt clones" have been around for awhile but I haven't any first hand knowledge of these good looking guns.  How about you folks that have the experience; any thing I should look for or do to make this gun perform and last?  Any feedback is appreciated......................Mike
P.S.  I didn't buy this gun to Hot Rod it.  I leave hot loads to the Rugers.

Thanks Chris!  However I don't think with the loads I will put through the Uberti that I will have any worries about steel quality. From what I read about the Uberti guns the real shortfall is the quality of the springs, so I will replace them with Wolf.
Sure wish more folks had experience with these guns as I'd like to know what they like and don't like about them, aside form the spring shortfall.
Thanks..............................Mike

It seems that there isn't much interest in the Uberti sixguns?  I cannot understand why.  I received my new gun and the fit and finish is first rate.  The gun is in .45 Colt, blued & cased, 4 3/4" w/one piece walnut grip, it's beautiful.  This is the type with the firing pin on the hammer and the importer is TriStar.  The polish on the blue is like a mirror.  It came with about 1/2 lb of grease in and on it so it took awhile until it could function properly.  I'm going to shoot it today at the range between downpours.  I loaded 100 rounds with 255gr RNFP bullets over 7gr thru 8gr of Unique.  I'll post the outcome, for anyone that may be interested.

Gunrunner, Uberti makes very fine guns.  You can buy inexpensive Uberti's with a satin finish or you can have very nice one's.  Remember those Beretta's, Cimmaron's, Taylors, and many others are Ubertis.  I'm looking at one now in the antique finish, I really do like that!  Italian guns have come a long way since the 70's.  They have nice fit and finish, good steel and proper dimensions now.  Springs are the only problem remaining and that is an easy fix.  In fact some of the importers are now putting wolff springs in them before they go out.  Those 8 gr of unique loads will do about 825 fps and do anything you wish to do.  Enjoy!  44 Man

44 Man........Thanks for your comments.  I shot the gun yesterday and I was dissapointed that the bullet impact was 2-2 1/2" left of zero @25yd.  The 255gr bullets and unique had the elevation spot on.  Sad that these fixed sight guns are off on windage.  Function otherwise was 100%.  This is a great looking sixgun but I demand that my guns shoot where they are pointed so it will be sold to a friend of mine for what I paid.  He's more of a collector than a shooter.  I'll buy a Ruger Blackhawk w/adj. sights to take it's place.  I'll probably not load the Ruger any higher than the 8 grains of Unique as my .41 and .44 Mags give me all the recoil and blast that I could ever want.  I just wanted a fun plinking .45 but I have to hit the can, not the dirt to the left of it...................Mike

Gunruner, a gun that does not shoot to the sights drives me crazy also.  Fortunatly it is usually easy to fix.  For only 2 inches at 25 yds, you can probably fix that with a change of loads or your grip.  If that does not do it, you can file a few strokes off the right side of the rear sight notch.  If you widen it slightly to the right, the point of impact will move right.  You can have the barrel turned to the left, which will do the same thing but I usually don't do that unless I need to move my group 4" or more.  You could also bend the front sight slightly to the left and correct it.  No more that you would have to do this, you probably couldn't even notice that it was no longer straight.  In fact, it may lean slightly to the right at the present.  You can also return the gun to Uberti, explain the situation, and they will adjust it.  A Ruger Blackhawk is a fine all around gun, but it just doesn't have the grace and balance of a single action army style gun.  Your problem is fixable, if you have questions, give me an e-mail.  44 Man

44 Man,   Thanks for the info but my friend jumped on the Uberti instantly and I couldn't pry his hot little hands off it.  I suppose it wouldn't matter to him if it couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.  He loves the look and feel.  Yes these Colt clones are balanced and really feel good in the hand.  I'll probably regret selling it but the new Ruger will have to do.  I'll just have to "personal" it up.  Thanks again.  Like I said I'm new to the forum but I'll hang around and post from time to time..............Mike
