What a difference a president makes.
Yesterday, President Donald Trump thrilled pro-life Americans with his announcement that he will become the first president in history to attend the March for Life. Trump will address the March for Life on Friday in live remarks to hundreds of thousands of pro-life people attending the event from across the country. He will be the first president ever to attend the March for Life in person, having addressed the March via video previously.
That will be a marked contrast from our last president, Barack Obama. In 2013, he attended a Planned Parenthood rally. Obama became the first sitting president to address the Planned Parenthood abortion business.
Not only did he promote abortion on demand and rally hundreds of abortion activists, Obama made a comment that achieved disgusting notoriety. He called on God to bless the abortion giant.
Here is how he ended his speech:
“As long as we’ve got to fight to make sure women have access to quality, affordable health care, and as long as we’ve got to fight to protect a woman’s right to make her own choices about her own health, I want you to know that you’ve also got a president who’s going to be right there with you, fighting every step of the way,” said Obama. “Thank you, Planned Parenthood. God bless you.”
Obama never mentioned the word abortion in the speech despite the fact that Planned Parenthood is the number one abortion business in the country. Obama mentioned a woman from Chicago who received services at Planned Parenthood but made no mention of Tonya Reaves, a black Chicago woman Planned Parenthood killed in a botched abortion.
“No matter how great the challenge, no matter how fierce the opposition, there’s one thing that the past few years have shown,” Obama promised Planned Parenthood at the time. “That Planned Parenthood is not going anywhere. It’s not going anywhere today. It’s not going anywhere tomorrow.”
But the pro-life movement is not going anywhere either, and President Trump’s speech will be a strong rallying cry as pro-life Americans prepare for a long election battle this year agaisnt one of the radical pro-abortion Democrats who support abortions up to birth.

Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver noted the unprecedented natiure of the Trump address.
“This is an unprecedented time in history as President Donald Trump demonstrates his commitment to the sanctity of human life as the first president to speak in person at the March for Life Rally. Through his judicial appointments and support of pro-life legislation, President Trump has been the most consistent and unwavering president who is a champion for life. I am very encouraged that this administration will soon help eradicate legalized human genocide and make the womb a safe place in America once again,” he said.
In fact, President Trump’s record is also in stark contrast to Obama’s.
In one of his first acts as president, Trump reinstated and expanded the Mexico City Policy, which prohibits taxpayer funding to groups that promote or provide abortions overseas. The change defunded Planned Parenthood’s international arm of about $100 million in U.S. tax dollars. And he has worked overtime to cut as much domestic taxpayer funding to Planned Parenthood as possible.
Trump has repeatedly called out the Democratic Party’s extreme position on abortion. During his state of the union address this year, Trump slammed the governors of New York and Virginia for promoting abortion up to birth and infanticide. He also called for Congress to pass a ban on late-term abortions on babies who are capable of feeling pain.
Trump and his administration have made a number of changes to protect those who morally object to abortions, expanding conscience protections for medical workers who believe it is wrong to kill an unborn baby and increasing religious exemptions for Obamacare.
His administration also intervened to stop the United Nations from supporting abortion in a resolution about sexual violence. In 2018, under his leadership, the State Department removed references to the so-called “right” to abort an unborn baby from a global human rights report as well.
Trump has appointed dozens of conservative judges to federal courts as well, including two to the U.S. Supreme Court.
