One State Just Passed A Law To Castrate Child Sex Offenders

By Alice Edwards - Updated February 3, 2020

Alabama has made a decision to stand strong against convicted child molesters. Because most Americans agree that criminals who steal the innocence of children are among the worst of the worst, Alabama has decided to pass a chemical castration bill that would forever change any person convicted of an abhorrent sex crime against a child under the age of thirteen, which is a measure approved by most people across the state.

State Representative Steve Hurst, a Republican, introduced the bill. It was passed by the state legislature and was recently signed into law by Governor Kay Ivey. Because the state wants to make it abundantly clear that child molesters are not welcome, the law now requires that any child sex offenders over the age of 21 will be chemically castrated before they leave prison and entered society again.

“They have marked this child for life, and the punishment should fit the crime,” Hurst said.

The Republican hopes that this drastic punishment will make a would-be child molester think twice before committing such a heinous crime against the youth of the state.

Since the chemical castration of child molesters is now the law of the land for those living in Alabama, it was decided that the Alabama Department of Public Health would administer the chemicals that reduce or block the production of testosterone in the body.

While many support the harsh punishment of child molesters, others believe that the punishment is too intense, even for a convicted child molester.

State Rep. Juandallynn Givan believes that it should be reconsidered because the urge to molest a child is not usually physical but psychological.

“You have to deal with the mind of a predator,” she said. “You don’t worry about the physical body parts. You have to deal with what makes them do what they do.”

In other words, Givan believes that chemically castrating convicted child sex offenders might not do what the legislators hope it will do. Instead, there is a deeper problem, a psychological problem that motivates these predators to target children.

Chemical castration would begin one month before the convict is set to be released from prison. The treatments would continue until a court decides otherwise.

State Rep. Allen Treadaway was in support of the law.

“Any action that we can take against a child molester that would prevent them from ever committing this type of crime again, I support, including chemical castration. I think this bill is one of those steps to ensure public safety.”

Although many people are in support of the imitative, others think there could be a better way to go about it. However, it is hard enough to identify people who are at risk of committing sex crimes against children. If they were easy to spot, people would have already been able to offer them counseling or alternative therapies.

The sex offender would have to pay for their own medication and would face a felony charge if they stop taking the chemicals that inhibit their testosterone.

Attorney Raymond Johnson predicts that the law will be challenged under the Eighth Amendment, which protects Americans against cruel and unusual punishment.

Have heard little to nothing of this on the news. It might have been casually mentioned but if so not enough time was devoted to it to cause me to remember it.

I'm not at all sure that testosterone is what causes a man to want sex with a child, whether male or female so wonder how much good taking it away will do. What about the women who "supposedly" force boys to have sex with them? They are labeled as child predators same as men. Ya can't take away their testosterone to fix them. And not all of those women chose boys either.

I understand why folks might like to hear of such things but I really question what if any good it really does anyone. The kids are who we should be concerned over. What's done to them is already done and can't be undone. I'm not at all sure this process would stop some guy who wanted to do it once from doing it again so how is it protecting the kids?

What about women who want sex with kids, guys or gals?

Some how I just don't think this is gonna help anyone or stop anything but I guess it will make some folks "feel good" that something is being done.

Perhaps less positive reinforcement of homosexual activity on TV, in the motives and on the news and less teaching in school of how to have sex of all types and more on abstinence might help more. Dunno, just doesn't feel like much of a step in the right direction to me.

This will just call for another bureaucracy to keep track of them and administer all those monthly tests which the perps will battle to the end in court.
I say physically castrate them.  eunuchs don't usually cause much trouble.  :)

If the state, actually people of the state, feel it so important to castrate then yes doing so physically rather than some temporary chemical process that must be regularly reapplied would make more sense.

The problem is if they get it wrong, it's pretty hard to undo...

im no psychiatrist but id guess most of those who commit those kinds of crimes do it because there mentality ill not just horny.  It seems like its more of a control thing then anything. Wonder if it would instead of being a deterrent to future crime it would just up the game to murder because there even more wacked out. Letting them out with so much doubt left that they have to be castrated makes me wonder why there letting them out in the first place. I guess that's the problem with our whole prison system. Theres no rehabilitation or even attempt at it. They don't have the money to keep them locked up so were safe so they stick nut cases with a 50 dollar needle full of chemicals and pretend that will keep us safe.

Not much  Of a comparison I suppose. But when I was training patrol dogs, folks would bring me dominant male dogs, that they said were untrainable because of there aggressiveness and they had already castrated the dog, trying calm him down.  Sad truth was the dog was trainable and the castration had nothing to do with the aggression. The dog was still aggressive nuts or not. The trainers, or owners had just taken some dam good genes and chunked'em in the trash.

Like  others said; evil is in the mind, not the nut sack.

Yeah, when our court systems are certified to always be right, do whatever seems right.  Until then be very careful with punishments.

Well, some folks kinda balked at physical castration, so, I changed my mind about that.
Kill them instead.
