Wife's First Big Game Hunt
« on: February 26, 2004, 06:57:30 PM »
I just had to post this story. Although we have hunted pheasant, quail, chukker, and dove together, my wife has issues shooting a deer. She has been with me on several deer and pig hunts as the videographer. On my last hunt she said she could shoot a pig because they are mean and ugly.
Well the conditions were pretty rough the wind and snow was blowing hard enough to blow me and the camera around. The shot was off her knees and a little over 150 yards. The boar just crumbled at the shot. She hit him behind the shoulder and through the heart. I am so proud of her I'm just busting. This was a hunt we will both remember.

Thanks for the replies. She shoots a Browning Stainless Stalker in 270 win. It's one of those guns that just seems to shoot well with anything you put in it. The load was 56gr of RL 22 behind a 150gr Partition. The rifle is fairly light so we put a Kick Ez pad on it. She is still very excited and talks often about the hunt. You may not believe it but we are in sunny southern California. The boar had long thick hair and should make a good trophy. The taxidermist we're using hollows out and seals the tusks.  One last shot of the happy hunter and her boar, I promise.
