Making a pen out of a feather

Just in case the power goes out, and wouldn't be at our wits end if it were? here is how to make a pen if we older ones need to teach our grandkids how to write.

 What did they use? Perhaps there were quill pens, now that we have lots of time I will look into it and get back to you-
 we know clay tablets were made at one time, this type of printed word would last as the clay was then fired.  The Qumran scrolls were parchment i think, so some kind of pen and ink were important. I didn't know about the drying and cleaning of the quills, I knew about pen knives

That is an interesting history discussion. Also the Romans used something, but I'm not sure what it was.
There are accounts about something like a carbon pencil.

Makes me think I should go out and buy a bottle of ink.Used to ALWAYS have one around for a fountain pen; have not seen any in a long time.
