Some info from the AR15 experts
« on: July 19, 2020, 04:48:00 PM »
I'm supposed to be the recipient of an
AR15 this next year, and I'm wondering
if it turns out to be a 762x39 will I be
able to replace the top at some point
with a. 223, and will magazines work
with a 762x39 receiver, or is it unique
to a 762x29 AR ?
I know I can use several suitable hunting
calibers with a .223 gun with no problems
or no magazine difficulties

Thanks for any advice

An AR is an AR is an AR, well except when it isn't.

I don't recall who makes it but there is on AR by someone that uses AK mags properly but most don't really. The lower on that one is different and I'm not at all sure you'd be able to put a regular AR upper onto that lower. Wish I could recall who makes it but can't.

Most 7.62x39 ARs have regular AR lowers but they really aren't that compatible with the AK mags as I understand it. I do not pretend to be any AR expert but have read that those long curved AK mags and AR lowers are not a good mix.

But other than that one rifle I mentioned the rest do use regular AR lowers and you'll be able to use any normal AR upper with it.

I toyed with the idea once or twice but in the end I decided that as far as I'm concerned if I really want a 7.62x39 that an AK nor an AR is the way to go.

Ok thanks.
I was unclear if the 7.62X39 ammo
would go through regular. 223 AR
magazines,  but I didn't pose the
question correctly. I did have a
really nice AK at one time, but it was
more valuable to another man and
he had cash that needed to go
somewhere besides his wallet.
If I do get this AR, it'll be one of
those beggars can't be choosers
kind of deals, but I was interested
if I could change it up if I was so
inclined, or if I'd be stuck with
the 7.62X39 configuration

its palmetto state armory that makes the dedicated 762x39 lower that uses ak mags. id like to someday get one because they actually work a 100 percent unlike most that use ar lowers. I had a bushmaster and it was a total pos. if you want a 30 cal ar15 go with a black out. near the power and much more reliable.

It's not so much a case of specifically
seeking out a 7.62X39 AR, as much as
it's what I might end up with since it'll
be a case of "Here.  Take this and see
how you like it.   .  ."
I was just curious if I'd be limited to just
the 7.62X39, or if I'd be able to go in
another direction if the opportunity were
to present itself. I already have 7.62X39
ammo, and experience using the round
for field use and hunting, so I know what
it'll do and it's limitations.
