Here's a twist from our long standing Texas-based GBO web site https://www.go2gbo.com/help/terms/ :

This agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada and users of the Web Site irrevocably attorn to the jurisdiction of the courts of the Province of Ontario.

Shaking my head today about whether to continue there. Dinny, et al, may be right in their departure from there - in perpetuity.

I believe that’s the truth, along with a bunch of other outdoor & gun forums. They seem to be drastically changing their design too. And I for one find them harder to navigate.

I have been back a few times since the new format came about. I find it user unfriendly and also not much going on. I have already pretty well given up on it but if the Canadian thing proves out I'll delete it from my bookmarks.

Apparently, you MUST be logged on to the new Go2GBO site in order for the link I posted above "/Help/Terms" to work. If you go there, log on, and then modify the site url to https://www.go2gbo.com/help/terms, which will take you to their latest "Terms of Use".

Their "terms" CONFIRM the former Graybeard Outdoors is presently OWNED by the Canadian Company VerticalScope, Ontario, Canada, to whom it was sold by Bill, at which time they instituted VerticalScope as the site's format platform.

Right now, GBO has been converted to Go2GBO and to XenForo software as its format platform, which is as it appears today.

There are a lot of names starting to show up over there that I don't recognize. With join dates displayed as far
back as 2004.

But they are now posting current, according to the site. Is it possible that VS may have merged it with
another site? Some of these, "others" arent posting an avatar or a place of origin.

I am losing interest in the original, and am tired of "jumping through hoops"..trying to post there.. So I guess I will stay here. I do miss some of the old gang however. Folks like TeamNelson, Guzzi, Bugeye and some others.

If you happen over there, please encourage them drop by here !

I can navigate it ok, but it still seems like you do have to jump through a lot of hoops in order to preform
something that was once very simple. And it's badly flawed in a lot of ways, not showing a post you made
or a forum won't open. I've even seen Tim over there scratching his head.

Effective March 1, 2014 me and Matt sold the www.graybeardoutdoors.com and www.go2gbo.com domains to Tactical Republic a California company. Technically they didn't buy the database only those two domains. Part of the agreement was we gave them access to the database so they could continue the site as it was.

At some point a year or more later some kinda deal with struck between Tactical Republic and Vertical Scope. I honestly don't know what that deal was. I don't know if they merged or if VS bought TR outright or what.

But yes VS is a Canadian company and they do own GBO or more correctly they own the two domains we sold to TR. They also own several hundred other websites. In fact they own most all of the shooting, hunting, fishing, boating, auto and other such sites on the internet.

They DO NOT own this website. This one is owned entirely by Matt. It has the database of the old original GBO as of the day we sold it and all that has been posted here since Matt set it back up. It does NOT contain the posts made to the other site since the day we sold it off.

I've asked a bunch of question there and made a few recommendations on their new "Community Help Section" Forum, at the bottom of the Index, and am awaiting Administration's response there.

The XenForo "Xeno" format. Which is now being used over there as the operating platform is a very proper name for it. For what's now going on.

Regarding "Not Suitable For Work" (NSFW) content:

You DO understand that THIS is, and always HAS BEEN, a HUNTING, FISHING, and SHOOTING SPORTS web site that is frequented by Men; by Conservative Men; Men that hunt, fish, trap, SHOOT and KILL animals FOR FOOD; Men that drink BEER and LIQUOR; Men that SMOKE CIGARS; Men with wives and children of their own; Men that censor themselves (mostly) in their postings to one another - in accordance with the January 31, 2005 (and amendments) GBO Terms of Use Policy; Men that LIKE WOMEN; Men that use COMMON SENSE; Men that don't tolerate STUPIDITY or IGNORANCE - right? Triggering of the Left is what these Men discuss - OPENLY. Censoring of their content here, from what is "routine and customary", is going to eviscerate participation and SIGNIFICANTLY alter the character and disposition of the people who will tolerate control by GOOGLE on this web site.

I STRENUOUSLY disagree. IMO you are shooting yourself in the foot.

I don't even understand what their post means. Now admittedly I've not read that entire thread and maybe it would make more sense to me if I had.

I guess Canadians need to "feel safe" and think everyone does. If they are gonna ban the showing of blood they sure aren't likely to allow folks to post photos of their dead critters. I've seen some pretty gory looking photos posted over the years there.

I imagine they will over time try to create uniform rules across all sites they own. Strikes me rules for a shooting, hunting, firearms and fishing site have to be different from say a car site or a gardening site.

They evidently made it clear that is by and for Ontario.. Well, OK..but keep this in mind, Canada does not have a "free speech" rule, but a "fair speech" rule.

..A little play on words there! Free speech means just what it says..but "fair speech" ?

Who decides what is "fair" ?

At the moment we have a taste of this, where groups like Twitter, Facebook and Google take the initiative of deciding for themselves just what constitutes fair speech.

I doubt many here like that !

It has already done that and I expect it to just keep increasing here as it goes down there. I'm sure tho that most there aren't aware of this site.

Since I kinda act as an agent for them there as Admin, I don't feel it appropriate for me to solicit folks there personally. I think Matt has done some of that and I'm guessing so have some who have found this site and are now using it.
