2018 Ram 1500 With 5.7 Hemi
« on: July 22, 2020, 02:28:28 AM »
Anybody got one? I traded for one yesterday and have never owned a dodge.
It's a single cab with a short wide bed (my favorite bed), and I'm wondering how folks like these pickups, engines, and what kinda fuel mileage.
I'm skeptical on the 23mpg.

This one is low mileage, and still under factory warranty on the power train.

I never owned a Dodge either , I have relatives up north in Michigan who run them , I  have heard them  mention transmission problems with them .

Do not know how dependable such sites are but here is one showing averages; it is odd on that graph that is also shows O miles per gallon.
It would seem highway/town 16 is most common.

I had forgotten that my mechanic son had one for a couple a years.
Took Linda to the doctor in it today, and the thing got 25, & 26 mpg.

My son explained that once the hemi hits cruising speeds, 4 cylinders shut down.

Didn't know that.

ive got a 2020 crew cab. First ram ever for me. Matter of fact first non chev truck for me. So far I like it. It ride better then my chevs did and has more power. Only downside so far is gas mileage is about 2-3 mpg less then the chevs. For the first couple thousand miles it was even worse yet. More like 5 mpg worse then the chevs but has gotten a bit better. But to be fair my chevs had 343 gears and this one has 390s. this one also has an off road package that includes a 1.5 in lift so it sits a bit higher and im sure that effects mileage.  Best its got on the highway is 19 and average runs around 15-16 where the chev ran 22 on the highway and about 19 average. Your truck being a standard cab shot box is quite a bit lighter and im sure doesn't have such a low set of gears so should do better then mine. neighbor on his second hemi ram now. First one went pretty much trouble free for 170k. His first one he told me allways got 21-22mpg the new one hasn't been as good though. He said 19-20 but he doesn't have the gears and the lift mine has. Now the brother in law isn't as happy. He traded his chev 3/4 ton 5.7 that got 18mpg in on a 3/4 ton ram hemi with the 6.4. Hes getting 14-15 on the highway and is averaging around 12. Ive looked around the internet and it seems at least the newer hemis seem to get complaints about fuel economy all the time.
