I was thinking that with the vast amount of knowledge someone may have the answer.
Bach when I was a young teen after the war you could take your little red wagon or trike to a bike repair shop and they could replace the missing rubber on the metal wheel. I have a couple of Large round lawn mower wheels that the rubber has went bad and needs to be replaced and was wondering if there was anywhere that sold the rubber I have thought about getting some high pressure hydraulic hose and maybe using that. What they did was cut the rubber to size and thread a strong wire through the hole in the center of the rubber put the rubber on the wheel and then twist the wire to draw the rubber together and cut off the excess and stick the end into the slot where the rubber met.

Might try some agricultural sprayer hose , hydraulic hose is reenforced with  steel wire ,would be a booger to  make a linear cut on .

I don't think he means a linear cut, just end cuts. Hyd. hose might work but if it's over an inch it will be plenty stiff. Since it's a lawn mower I suggest heavy truck heater hose. The next problem will be finding wire that's not made in china so you can twist it tight without breaking.

Why not just order a new wheel? It most likely cost less than the material to cobble replacement rubber onto the old one. :o

A thin abrasive disc on an angle grinder will cut right through such hose. I have used such a thin cutting disc as a cut off, to apply such ends as a regular task.
The problem I see, is working with the wire twist at the ends.  Hydraulic hoses won't allow a great deal of working area, since they are awfully stiff...may have to find some kind of hose reinforced with nylon, rather than steel wire.  Just my $ .02..

We have a store called Harbour Frieght over here that I've noticed carries a fair supply of wheels which you may find suitable for your needs. They handle a fair amount of various other items as well, some reasonable quality, some not so much, but a man can get lost in that store pretty easily. May be worth looking into.

Tractor Supply also has an assortment of wheels. If your need is for idling wheels, you may do well with them, but if they are driving wheels, with attendant gears or notches, that can be another thought !

Glad you found your answer.. Thanks, McBammer !  There is help waiting right here on GBO, and I for one am not hesitant to use it !

I don't trust every "product review" on the web...so that is why I will sometimes question the efficacy of some products here, where surely, somebody has tried that product.

Perhaps some day that could be a new forum here..where the guys can recommend or condemn any product or service, depending upon their experience !  Pluis, one could inquire for same in that forum..

I have a couple of old lawn mowers out back with good rubber, and that size. Your welcome to them if you like.
Mowers don't last long out here, maybe five years then the engines get dusted. Even changing the air filters
on a regular basis.
