I don't pay any attention to the "it's good for you" or "it's bad for you" stuff. I drink it because I like it. I drink it black except sometimes in the afternoon I'll make a cup of my particular style of "irish" coffee. I must be immune to caffeine as I never notice a boost and can go sound asleep right after drinking a cup or even two. The sun has just peeped over the horizon and it's coffee time. Heck, anytime is coffee time as far as I'm concerned.
I too used to often brew a pot at nine P.M. or later, often.
Still do it on occasion but more likely to drink tea now.
I drink it black seven times out of eleven ; I do prefer to use heavy cream over half and half, as just a few drops can give it a very pleasant mellow taste.
Fifty years ago I would often jazz up my coffee with sugar to a silly point but quit, and I do not know why, whereas; when flavored coffee hazelnut, toffee etc. hit the stores, for awhile, I really liked those and then they lost the uniqueness they had so I quit for years.
Now I will brew a pot every now and then once again as the other half always has a bag available.
Irish Coffee, or coffee with Chocolate Liquor , and little heavy cream, I often find good late at night.
