didnt realize it was this bad

wanted some 110 barnes x for the blackout and some 150s and 165s to play with next year in the new o6 and checked all the online places and other then high dollar premium bullets there is about nothing anywhere. At least no 110 barnes x and no ballistic tips or sierras or Hornady's

Wouldn't surprise me if it's a couple years or more before component manufacturers can meet demands. I honestly don't think we've seen the worst of this shortage yet.

went to the local hardware store/ gunshop today. its the only place close by that sells loading supplys. I got a brick of large pistol primers but they had no small pistol or small rifle left. He had quite a bit of large rifle but im pretty much stocked on them and dont use near as many as i do small rifle.  I remember when i would have bitched about 35 bucks for a brick of primers and bought them even though i didnt really need them at this time and what i really needed was small pistol. Oh well its a 1000 more 45 acps I can shoot next summer.

If you don't already, you should check out prices on Armslist. I'll quit shooting and buying guns before I'll pay the prices being asked.

" didn't realize "

Been that way here for a while.
What I don't understand is the
large numbers of so-called
experienced hunters in my area
that are scrambling for a half a
dozen rounds of ammo to go
hunt with in 2 weeks. Everything
should have been made ready
to go months ago instead of hanging
around guzzling beer with the pals
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

I just received the latest Natchez and Sportsmen's Guide catalogs in the mail.  In one of them the Nosler Partition bullet that is on a Nosler case, powder and primer unspecified, as manufactured and packaged by Nosler in 270 Winchester caliber was over $85 for 20 rounds.  Come On Man!  Over $4.00 per round?!?!?  Not going through my gun.  I am building 270 Winchester Nolser Partition rounds, very accurate rounds too, for under $1.00 each (probably closer to $0.50 each).

I'm sure most of us have more ammo and components than we will ever NEED, but the price gouging going on has really got me bent out of shape for some reason. I'll take up golf before I pay gouger prices.

Yeah,  I've got more than enough loaded
up and a good bit to reload most of it.
A couple of friends that shoot competitively
have pretty much had to put a good bit of
it on the back burner. It's cut way back on
practice and sight in shooting for people like
me.
I'm really flabbergasted at the number of people
in my area that didn't have a supply of ammo set
aside for the upcoming deer season in a couple
of weeks. It'll either get much better soon, or
much worse
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

A shortage of ammo on the store shelves isn't gonna keep me from shooting. I sure don't do the volume of shooting I used to but I still get out and shoot.

Just today I was sorting out the brass I had fired yesterday as I was taking it from the tumbler and decided to look around to see if I could locate some more .44 special brass for some loads I want to put together.

I did find about 25-30, maybe more and put them in the tumbler to clean. I also found several hundred yellow brass .38 special cases that were prepped and ready to prime but were looking kinda dull so I tossed them in the other tumbler. I found close to  or maybe a bit more than 1000 nickel .38 cases ready to prime also. They were shiny and bright.

I found a large box of brass under my loading bench and it was primed .45acp, didn't count them but at least 1000 I'd bet. I sorted out the ones with verdigris forming and tossed them in the scrap brass bucket. I then reboxed them in closed box. They are ready to load also.

I could use some Bullseye and Unique powder but otherwise I'm in good shape. Not that I need them but whenever I get ready I can load up several thousand more rounds of ammo anytime I want to from stuff on hand.

I've looked for both Bullseye and Unique online and it just ain't out there. Next time I get to a gun shop I'll see if there is any. If they aren't scalping it and have some I'll buy, if not I have plenty of other appropriate powders that will substitute nicely for them.

I had a box with two 8 pound cans of Lil Gun sitting up high that I thought was Unique but when I opened the box it was Lil Gun instead. I got that for loading .410 back when I was still shooting skeet.

Found the word intriguing myself, but the 16# of Lil Gun distracted me.  ;D

there will be panic here though bill. reloaders, casters and actual shooters are in the minority on these kinds of forums. Heck ive got a buddy who owns probably 50 guns and doesnt shoot a 100 rounds a year. Mostly just decorations in his house. The guys that shoot for the most part have stashes and wouldnt be caught with there pants down. I get guys all the time that call or come over because they know i have ammo and think ill share with them. They can afford there harleys and boats and atvs but dont have an extra box of ammo for there 9mm. I know what id like to tell them but i keep it civil and just say nope the liability of me giving you ammo and blowing a gun up in your face is just to great to risk it. Even had a gunshop owner that wanted to trade guns for some 556 ammo. Owns a flipping gun shop and doesnt have the sense to keep some ammo on hand!!!!! No cure for stupid.

kinda off topic, but my LGS/firing range got in a load of .22LR Winchester HVHP in 500 count bricks, and they broke them down in to 50 count ziplock bags with a limit of two bags per person.
I paid $20 total for my two bags.  :o

I have an entire case of 5000 of those I think Ron. I haven't even opened the box they came in. I sure don't expect to ever be in a situation where I'll pay that kinda money for rimfire ammo.

I've got a nice collection of old 22's and buy rimfire by the case. Winter slows down my shooting but I shoot a brick a week in the warm months. I figure I'm good for a year but might back off a little until prices get realistic.

A local gun consignment auction closed out yesterday. A 500 round brick of Remington thunderbolts sold for $255 add buyers premium and tax =$296.
$296/500=.592 cents/ round. I figured the guy bid early (like at $25) and accidently put an extra number 5 on his bid, but no, there were 41 bids to get to that amount. People are going nuts. Average cost per 500 rounds of 22lr at this auction was about $130. The guns went a little high but nothing like the ammo. $80 for a 20 round box of Winchester 30-30.

When osama obama announced in 2008, I started buying Winchester Dynapoints at $9.95 per brick and amassed a great quantity.
But then I had that boating accident and lost it all along with several guns.
Stuff happens.

If you have enough to hang on, don't become a trophy child for some price gouger!  Ammo will come back, just as it did last time around.  The days of burning up 500 rounds in a day, may have to be curtailed..but things will come back.

Bug, to bad about your boating accident :( I sold all my guns and ammo when then price was high. I kept one old 410 with a cracked stock and rusty barrel 'cause nobody wanted it.

It's tragic how many of us
lost our firearms and ammunition
to marine accidents, but that
just goes to show the importance
of having on a well fitting well
constructed PFD while engaging
in boating activities.
At least the fish have more structure
