I've always been of the mindset of (metaphorically speaking) throwing the bad seeds to the wolves. There should be a plan in place that if a church leader is accused, they can be taken out of a position of authority until the mater is resolved one way or the other.

dont know the way i read it is one man got charged with a misdemeanor that moslested a number of children. We had a minister right in my own town that was brought was charged with 5 counts and plee bargined and got 6 months jail time suspended with probation. He magicaly disapeared. Found out the church elders knew about it for at least a year and did nothing until a parent came forward and filed charges. My point here isnt to dam the baptists or any religion its just that just like with our president today the media has it in for the catholic chruch and if EVERY case of molestation by a protestant minister was plastered all over then national news wed no doubt see its just as prevelent in any church. matter of fact i posted a link a while back that showed that there is a higher percentage of teachers that commit these crimes then pastors or priests. How often do you see that on the national news. How often does msn or nbc tell us those storys. Same article showed that in this country even police molest and commit sex crimes as much as clergy. Like i said in the other post. When you let the liberals treat this unfairly and in doing so cause major rifts in christianity between churches then you have let them win. As to priest that molest or for that matter anyone that molests the gas chamber is too good for them. Yup it happens. Theres a catholic priest facing charges right now in the county next to ours. The chruch has done nothing to protect him. He was defrocked and not allowed to give mass until the court makes it decision. If hes found guilty he will be tossed out of the church and if hes found innocent he will be treated as such. Another thing i always keep in mind with this crap is look at this election and how magically people come forward making claims against politicians that supposedly happened 20 years ago. No proof other then there word and in some cases it ruins familys and peoples career. The liberals want Christianity dead in this country. Its not part of the socialist agenda. Do your really think there not beyond orchestrating some trumped up thing to stir hatred amongst us. I do believe catholic priest have been put on notice by there hierarchy that this will not be tolerated anymore. Its sad there was some bad apples but you cant stereotype millions of Catholics because of what a handful have done. You have to ask yourself what would Jesus have done.    I wish you had said that some church elders can be as corrupt as some preachers.  Surely you are not painting all with such a broad brush !  Politics?  Such probably does happen in some churches, but I haven't personally seen it working in common practice.
  Being a pastor, elder or deacon has it's responsibilities, where one must be careful of their own conduct, because it has enormous implications.
 " But he that knew not and committed things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required; and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more."  (Luke 12:48)
  While there is likely a modicum of prestige involved, if one seeks the office for that reason, he is off on the wrong foot at the start.  Such should be the choice of the congregation, based on Biblical knowledge and personal conduct etc.  ..But of course, such requires that the congregation be reasonably familiar with the Bible as well, harkening back to the Bereans, who Paul referred to as "more noble", because they did study and refer to the Bible, more than most others.

My church , decades back had elders whose only thinking was money and make the church look more grand.
A town elder, left the church six figures but included in that gift that the original Sunday School building ,built in the fifties, could NOT be torn down , period, or the money would be forfeited.
The elders had a shite fit that they could not tear it down and build what they wanted; they renovated it for  more efficient heating and water leakage problems but I miss the original old girl as I grew up being instructed in that building.
It had its own smells and sounds as you walked through it. (It also had a shower in the bathrooms on all floors, now removed.)

They added a bunch more buildings and removed the parking lot basketball court that I, and many other kids in the neighborhood spent a lot of time at , rather than raising hell but I still walk through the old girl when I go home from church because that was how I did it 98.6 percent of the time for decades.

  Such a stubborn attitude does exist, and is detrimental to any local church.  That reminds me of the fellow who began to attend a local church, and one Sunday fell into conversation with one of the elders, by saying something that elder did not agree with.  The elder says, "I'll have you know, I am a pillar of this church !"  Whereupon the new congregant replied.."I understand, and I have been wondering what has been holding things up around here !"

   About the only thing I can say for that type of elder, is what I have already quoted:

As usual, just blowing smoke. How about providing actual evidence instead of blowhard anecdotal evidence? We have hard evidence that the catholic church, all the way up to the pope had an organizational wide policy of protecting pedophile priests and a policy of moving priests to other churches if they were caught raping young children. Well golleee Lloyd!  I was about to agree that the Roman Catholic Church, does not get a fair shake from the major media!  I won't change that, but I think the reason is, because the RC Church is a big target, and to the spiritually ignorant media members think the RC Church holds some kind of authority over other denominations.

  I would condemn anyone who is in a position of trust,...preacher, teacher, priest, cop, lawyer, financial adviser, lawyer,  real estate agent. and violates that trust, he should get double the punishment !
  I take it serious, when scripture says to who much is given, much will be required (Luke 12:48)   Check the context...he was speaking to church leadership.

We have hard evidence that the catholic church, all the way up to the pope had an organizational wide policy of protecting pedophile priests and a policy of moving priests to other churches if they were caught raping young children. Then christianity is EVIL because every denomination  has at one time or another and probably every individual church has covered up some sin at one time or another if its been around for more then a couple years. We are all sinners. Yup even the pastors priests, deacons, secretarys and even the janitor. Your church (if you really even have one) is as guilty as mine. Its like this. If you have 5 million people and 500 are pedophiles in one church and your church with 50000 has 5 pedophiles your church is no more innocent then the big one. that is for everyone that dosesnt watch nbc or whos home page on the internet isnt msn or has a biden campaign sign in his front yard.

As usual, wrong. Christianity is not evil. Stop trying to deflect and defend your church's history. Yes there are pedophiles in every organization that has access to children including other Christian denominations besides the catholic church. The big difference and the main point that you refuse to acknowledge is the catholic church (at organizational level all the way up to the pope) knowingly hid the sexual abuses of pedophile priests and ACTIVELY helped these pedophile priests find new victims by transferring them to other churches after they got caught sexually abusing children. Those are irrefutable FACTS and pure evil. My point that you failed to comprehend is that any other churches who engage in this behavior are also as evil as the catholic church. The difference being there are a lot of churches who immediately purge any pedophiles that are discovered in their ranks. Pedophiles are a sad fact of life but how a church or youth organization handles them is what differentiates them from being evil. Protecting pedophiles is pure evil.

My own Church split before we started there, and the elders immediately turned an abuse accusation over to the police.  Their investigation uncovered a couple more cases and yet some of the congregation left when that youth pastor was fired.
Very very sad that things turn out like that.

True Bugeye, but in my church the opposite happened. Our preacher involved himself,  and took sides in a church employee divorce, and her longtime member husband. The preacher, from the pulpit, accused him of sexually molesting his teenage daughter. He was trying to save his staff members' job by making it a "Biblically approved divorce" from her husband.
Problem was, the member didn't do it, and the daughter called her mother out on it in the courtroom, and the employee was let go.
I, and another member, approached the preacher, and the deacons, to discipline the preacher, and make an official church apology to  the  member.
The preacher refused, and the deacons took the cowardly way out, by trying to just "let it go".

I, along with dozens and dozens of others left the church. I grew up in that Southern Baptist church, and now it is a shell of what it once was.
The same preacher faces a lot of empty seats every Sunday morning now. The church by refusing to right a wrong, has lost its credibility.

  That is a very sad story..  the preacher went way off base, and should have been upbraided by the elders, for bringing these matters up in a public forum from the pulpit. 
   
    Too often, when some folks are in a leadership position, they tend to forget they have been elected to serve the people!  How often did Jesus remind his apostles of the duty and beauty of being a servant ?  He reminded them that those striving to be first, will be last, and those working primarily to serve will end up being first !
