Mark me down as a carbon fan also. Sorry, but I don't think Case has made a sharp knife for 15-20 years!
Some are worse than others.. I once had a long bladed folder called a "Farmer's knife (forgot number), that simply would NOT take an edge.
I could have driven to the Case factory (about 25 miles) and they may have replaced the blade, but i didn't bother before giving it away.
Some of you may have known, along with blacksmithing, I enjoyed dealing in cutlery
When I forge a knife, i usually use repurposed 1085 or 95 steel.. My grandson has claimed the love of carbon steel from me...but leans toward 5160.
some of you may have known, years ago..along with blacksmithing, I carried a sideline in cutlery.
Here's a hint for very reasonably priced carbon steel blades, which have a very keen edge..
1) Folder.. Try an Opinel, mde in the French Alps, i believe you could shave with one when you receive it. Easy to keep like that too. The stainless barrel turns to lock the blade.
