Late great Carl Shafer
« on: November 02, 2020, 02:29:42 PM »
I am putting this here because even though it has been 42 years since I saw this car run and spoke with the owner, ( he was an Illinois farmer who was the last American hold out against the German Porsche steam roller, in road racing,  back then ) it seems like just a few years ago.
The second image the nitty-gritty which is what racing was 45 years ago; no paved paddock, you worked on the car on dirt or grass; pit toilets,  common men whose hobby was racing, not rich yuppies whose daddy paid their way to go racing.

I am wondering, this crappy year has really made me look into the past, as the Good Ole Days, but if the Democrats win, this year may seem like the good old days.

Auto racing , which used to be darn near my addiction, is now in the same category as D.C. a swamp of BS and money talks, talent walks.
