In hundreds of thousands of sizing cases, I have NEVER had a case(s), two (2) 270 caliber Winchester brass exclusively, that REFUSED to neck down in the sizing die.

After FULL LENGTH sizing (two blocked die to shell holder and overcam on Rockchucker) the 0.277" mic'd bullet DROPS INSIDE THE CASE with ease.  No neck tension at all.  I resized them again.  Same result.  Not doing it again or I will go insane expecting a different result.

I will mic the sizing button...stand by.  Nope.  0.2745" (+/- 0.0005") sizing button.

Necks are mic'd at 0.2985" out to out - so that SHOULD be "squeezed" by the sizing die - WTH?

Cases are both trimmed, as all others, to 2.540".  Neck of case above shoulder is fire formed at 0.60" on each.

I'm late as usual but anneal the necks and give it another try.

Just me, but unless I had many
of those cases, I'd flatten every
one of em with the hammer I
keep under the bench for that
purpose, and they would reside
in the coffee can with the rest of
the problem cases that went there.
I had some a good while back that
I spent way too much irreplaceable
time on, and I decided no more no
more.  I also sold my pocket swager
and unless someone gifts me several
5 gallon buckets of brass, I won't put
any more time toward such a project.
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

Like orerancher said, just punch the primer out. Be sure to save it. Them little critters is gittin' scarce. However, if you anneal it correctly there won't be enough heat get to the base to bother it but why take a chance.

I've punched out many live primers and never set one off.  I wouldn't try in on crimped in primers but in consumer brass no problem and I've also tried reusing them if I knew what they were in the first place.  I've never had an issue with a reseated primer but I haven't had to do that in a very long time.  YMMV....

Land_Owner I would be very interested in an update on this topic.  Did you just mash them or try another avenue.  Spring loaded brass cases are not very common to me ::)

Both cases are still lying on top of the filing cabinets in which I keep my reloading components by caliber.  Those live primed cases are still ready to either resize and reload or get punched out.  I have not ended my experimentation with getting them to resize.  I still think it is something that I did or have done and in that I need to know.

At present, I am flush with 270 hunting rounds, have been sitting in the woods A LOT this month.  The deer season is over in five days (though hog killing is 24/7 - when they participate).  I killed one buck in November - that is the only one this season that I have seen.  The prospects of getting another deer before the season ends is slim to none...but I am still going to try.  Maybe another hog or two will participate.  I killed two already and the sausage is a culinary delight.

I have had the Universal Deprimer Die in the press a time or two, but those two out of sight - out of mind cases did not come to hand (I forgot) as I reloaded for my BIL and neighbor in 308 and 30-06 respectively.

He's probably running them through a 30-06 die.  :o ;D
He has reached the age of senility ya know.

I don't OWN a 30-06 die and certainly the measurements taken and posted attest to that, but I do resemble your remark...

Might try sizing without the expander button just to see what happens  ::)
