Whenever the government bans something whether it be alcohol, guns, drugs, etc. the black market ALWAYS fills the void. A better approach would be to make punishments much stricter for committing any crimes under the influence of drugs. Mandatory 10 years in jail for 1st offense drunk driving would basically put an end to drunk driving and save 10,000+ lives per year. History has proven over and over that trying to prevent crimes by banning alcohol, guns, drugs, etc. has little effect on crime rates.

I always said 2 years to do on first offense drunk driving, but with injuries I could absolutely live with 10 years, or more.

2 years would be a huge improvement over what we have now and would put a huge dent in the number of drunk driving deaths annually.

JMO
I don't think 2 years is enough.
If you take a life while drunk or
high or otherwise chemically
impaired, you should stand a
death penalty trial and stand a
fair chance of losing your life.
If you permanently maim someone
in the same scenario, you should
face life imprisonment without
parole at least for condemning
an innocent person to a life of
pain and suffering.
I've yet to ever hear a valid or
sensible excuse for driving
while chemically impaired because
there isn't one. Anyone who
tries to put any logic to it
doesn't have any sense

Well, I wish you guys had been on some of the juries I faced for 21 years.

Been on some DUI juries.
Got tossed out of the last one
and almost got to stay overnight
with a contempt.
One of the attorneys let it slip
that the defendant was a habitual
drunk and multiple offender.
He got to approach the bench
and got an a$$ chewing and I
think a fine.
The judge said we were to disregard
and I told him that he shouldn't
have ever been driving much less
outside of jail ever again. He said
it wasn't my job to interpret law,
that was HIS job and NOBODY
ELSE'S!  The attorneys sent me
on my merry way. The scumball
probably killed some innocent
people or something later down
the road. They always do

Well, that "judge" has a surprise coming, when he discovers just who the real and eternal judge is !

I've served on juries with judges
who were fair and impartial just
as they should be, and had the
required common sense.
Others were as crooked as the
attorneys that stood in front of
them. I haven't been called in a
while, so I don't know what things
are like now with all the blm stuff
prevalent around here

Haven't been called in many years now. When an arrest is involved, I always tell'em I'm going with the officers version. They'd send me home.

I had to sit on a jury once for a murder trial. He was found guilty and sentenced to life.
Gang banger did a premeditated drive by over a drug deal.
